members.lycos.co.uk

They give exactly 50 MB, with a lot of options (traffic monitoring, etc..) But there are sites who give 100 MB and more, but with a less elegant adress (Freewebz, ...)

There are many freewebhosters, but the most are not good

There are limits to filesize, or they are slow, or the are often down smiley

I need a real good one

Yahoo has a file host system that used to allow up to 15 meg files. Perhaps thats an option?

I meant that to read, 15 meg chunks. I think you had 50 or 100 megs total.. Might pay to check on the site.

For screenshots there are a lot of free image hosting sites on the net. imageshack.us (my personal favorite), photobucket.com, etc.

For other files you might want to check and see if you actually have some hosting you dont know about. For example, colleges and ISP's often throw in some webspace that you might not know about.

"FileFarmer - 3 GB for 1 year, free."

My goodness. I just got more free space than my first 3 computers combined.

Thanks.

There is either a heck of a lot of hostility, or a heck of a lot of insiders joking at this site. I hope I can sort out which it is before I step on someones toes and be on the receiving end of some.

Any members in particular that I should avoid, or better, buddy up with?

I want to learn mapping not spend all my limited on line time staving off blows.

I am so happy, I made a box with a light in it today. I really walked around inside something I made. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

Great feeling isn't it? <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

As for which toes to avoid? Well like all forums, our members have their own traits, for better and worse. General advice would be not to ignore or get angry at people for giving you honest feedback on your work - most of use pride ourselves on our honesty in this regard. Some people are better at coating the honest feedback in sugar than others, but always accept the feedback, no matter how harsh, and use it to improve.

yes, a good feeling.

I do believe that a level of honesty is best, but some of the honesty I have been reading is pure sniping and general low level attacking. Some of it to people who have been here a long time judging by their membership roster.

I have been here a while just reading. I didn't really like what I was seeing. It was my interest in mapping that finally boosted my confidence enough to become verbal.

Check some of the most recent comments in the maps from the front page. (specifically some that just slid off the page)

I saw a four year veteran attacked by two members from quite recently for giving an honest opinion. I almost said no way again.

Anyway, I am glad you took a moment to clue me in. I hope to get some favorable feedback, positive and negatively expressed alike.
