There seems to be a bit of controversy about this, so i wanted to ask your opinions via this poll, to know it once and for all.

With grav gun ammo i mean the throwable stuff in a map. Is it an integral part of HL2 and does it make a map better, or is it not a must?

Depends on the map I think.

Some maps are really cool without prop tossing.
But everyone has his/her own opinion about this because we have grav-gun junkies out there AND people who really hate it.

The grav-gun is the only thing that makes HL2DM special. If you don't like it, play UT in DM mode and stop crying <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/evilgrin.gif"> .

I am more of an old-fashioned kinda guy, and I prefer those traditional weapons (Magnum, rockets, grenade, machine guns). Gravity gun is cool for the single-player level, but I don't really care for it in a deathmatch.

Grabbing it and throwing things at random direction in a deathmatch is just total choas. It doesn't require strategy or skill.

I think the grav gun can be used very well with both strategy and skill, but at the same time it can just be used completely at random and still garner some kills. I voted map dependant, but I think that most maps do need some physics objects for throwing.

Like I think someone stated before, yes the gravity gun gives a unique feel to half-life two deathmatch, I love shooting people with random objects and them dying from them. Some maps can be good with limited physics, and I have seen a lot of maps without physics, and they weren't too great to deathmatch in.

If you dont have any probs, then the player is stuck with a usless wepon.

Name a single place where you cant find any objects that aren't bolted down? I'm not just talking boxes and barrels, there are plenty more props that the grav gun can use.

Hell I've killed people with the shoe prob before.

bottom line, #1 but think outside the barrel.

How are they stuck with a useless weapon? In HL2DM even the pistol isn't useless, and the melee weapons are extremely useful in a good number of circumstances. I'm not saying the grav gun is bad, but its far from the only useful weapon.

I find the gravgun is most useful, more useful than anything! Just think, I can use it to throw stuff at people (1 shot, 1 kill), I can use it to grab items located in inaccsessible areas, I can use it as a cheap grenade launcher...hell, I can even use it to fly (sort of)! Then again, it's all a matter of gameplay tehnique.

Aside from igniting an explosive barrel, how can the pistol be useful? Yeah, it can kill people when they are on their last leg (with no sheild and 3 of Health), but I never arm myself with that in a deathmatch.

If in doubt and low on ammo, I bust out the crowbar in close quarters.

I use the pistol more than the SMG when I spawn, and I tend to do well by doing so. Other people use the SMG and just wait to reload once they have expended a clip, but I just chop and change between the 2 and it works a treat. The pistol is more useful than you would think, particularly if using it over long ranges and you aim for the head. Obviously its not up to the usefulness of the crossbow or something (imo thats still the best weapon in the game, once you get used to leading your shots), and you're better off charging with a melee weapon or spraying the SMG if in really close quarters, but if you can use the pistol with accuracy its far from useless.

as in the grav gun has little or no use when there is no "ammo" for it.

I somewhat agree. It seems that no matter WHAT connection I am playing on, gravs**te makes it lag. Also, The stuff always falls out of my gravgun's grip and then i can't throw it anymore. Also, gravgun would be perfectly fine most of the time, if it wasn't the default weapon that you start out with, because it always seems like the other guns AND the throwables are very far away...




I tried sniffing coke, but the ice cubes kept getting stuck in my nose.

on mulitplayer i hate the grav gun (from the one time i played hl2:dm). its too powerful most of the time and lags things up like s**t.

I dont get much of any lag and I play on the SP server! It could very well be your computer trying to compute the physics.

Also, there is a command to change your spawn wepon. You could find it on google.

but, Drglass, my computer is pretty fast. 2.0 P4 with 2GB ram. It runs DOOM3 with really high settings and benchmarks really nicely, so I don't see why it woukld lag on HL2.
