hey ca someone plz explain to me how i get this hammer thing up and running and where i go to download something if i need to?

Im sorry if i sound stupid its just cause i wanna make some maps but i have absolutlely NO clue as to how i would make a map

So PLZ help me it will be much appreciated :?

to get the hammer thing up and running, i think you choose 'sourse sdk' from your list of steam games, and then double click on 'hammer editor' in the box that should open if you done the 1st bit right. i liked the way that it auto configs, so i don't know if there's any special settings you need to put in if there's a manual option.

don't be sorry for not knowing how to map, it doesn't make you sound stupid, as you say. the fact that everyone here [other than mephs:P] makes maps means that you wouldn't find many people calling you stupid for wanting to do it. you may get one or two people that think you sound stupid for other reasons. like maybe for not using punctuation, or for using silly abbreviations, but not for wanting to map.

...and read the tutorials at TWHL first. That mapping community is geared more toward beginners.

The SnarkPit is designed for intermediate to advanced mappers. We don't have as much resources for beginners as TWHL.

But welcome, nevertheless.
