Oh come on...! Is it really that bad?!

LOL. I haven't played yours yet Loco, but from the screens I wouldn't give it a 1/10. Pulling off the concept is worth 2/10 at least <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">.

As to the general quality of the entries, they accurately reflect the mappers who made them. A number are fairly new to mapping so there work isn't going to be as swish as the veteran mappers. I think thats the thing, it seems that none of the veteran's here or on other sites have been able to enter. A sign of the times I guess, having less time to do the things you love.

No, actually saturated was one of the best in the lot. Stop torturing yourself <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif"> . There were some othe entries that I thought looked good aswell, but I really didn't fancy one of the maps (i'm not giving any names) since it had some very tight and dark areas and was very hard to navigate.

I downloaded the Orderlies_vs_Patients map a couple of times and it said the file was corrupt. Anyone else have a problem with getting that one to work?

Just took a quick run through of the other maps. I guess I can't be too critical since I couldn't muster the energy to sit in front of the computer all summer making a submission myself. But as someone with a surrealist art background I felt like maybe I was expecting too much. But then again, I really like a couple of these.

It's tricky making someting surreal and yet playable as a fun DM map. There's a lot of give and take choices to make. I spent a lot of time working out ideas in my head when the contest was first announced and spent hours trying to mork them out. (one was the magic hallway of doors from cartoons made with a series of teleports- I'd love to see someone make that work).

I have looked at all the maps, and have pretty much picked the best one in my opinion. A few are pretty cool looking, while a few aren't that good. Orderlies verus Patients does not work for me either.

It probably doesn't work because it's part of a mod, not a HL2 DM map. Really I'm not sure why it was submitted, since it seems to be for a medical training simulator that hasn't been released. Not very surreal.

No, it is a HL2DM map(you're thinking of a different map.) It is not the bsp that is corrupt but the zip will not extract.

Ah! Sorry about Oderlies_v_Patients, the zip was inexplicably corrupted. I fixed it now, and e-mailed Leperous about fixing the file. If anyone is really desperate to play it, it's fixed in my profile. Sorry for not believing you at first, BlisTer.

Unlocked?

Yaaa.

/me hugs.

On topic: I know that this has been brought up before but apparently not within the last 4 months as I was forced to request this thread unlocked.

How would everyone feel if we 1st, voted on a representing body to determine the winners and 2 have a site wide vote for these maps? Somehow, having them lost into abandoned obscurity seems a gross misconduct to me.

I would also request volunteers to write some review type pages for the event.

IMO, the very delay of this event precludes punishment to those who were tired of waiting and released their maps before the results and I feel no adverse penalty should be imposed on any entrant. Opinions?

Anyway, If the outlook seems favorable, perhaps we can get an admin to release the maps to the voted representatives????

I'm all for getting a winner selected, but alas I wont be able to help test and therefore can't vote.

I hope we can get things rolling though...

While i'm all for a 2006 competition, to start it up when not even finishing the 2005 one would be quite unfair to us <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/sad.gif">

Gwil had some great intentions on finishing it by starting to put them on the server. maybe a way to round it up is to organize playtests with the judges and/or interested members. Since Lep isnt here a seperate voting site might not be easy, so maybe just have an official poll in general banter after the playtests?

Sounds like a plan to me, though I think we should only count votes made WITH a post confirming their vote, as otherwise it would be too difficult to judge the authenticity of the poll.

Well if someone is patient enough to create multiple accounts as to vote more than once means that they're also patient enough to post 3 words as to validate their (fake) votes.

How about having a thread to nominate judges?

But at least we can see who is voting - this contest is so late to be judged that the possibility of it pulling in new faces is highly unlikely, so if we DO see lots of new accounts springing up and voting, then something may be amiss.

Yeah, sorry about that - there's a couple of maps on there already but nothing concrete. I've just been overwhelmed by starting university and having a full timetable to cater for.
