i have gotten that horrible little bug that doesnt allow for finished updating. this is too important for me so i decided to start a new thread.

as you all know i have been away on a long, great holiday and was looking forward to some CSS when i got back (today). but i knew, in the duration i was gone that i had missed quite a few updates.
so i click on the Steam shortcut and unsurprisingly it needs to update. but then it gets to 26% and says: Steam.exe (main exception); ERROR: Failed to delete Steam.exe, Win32 Error 5 "Access is Denied"

so i say to myself, no problem i have enocountered this before and fixed it. so i did what i did last time: delete the existing steam.exe and download a new one. i go to update and it comes up with the same error.
so i delete the steam.exe again and rename the 'steamtmp' to 'steam' and then open it up. doesnt finish updating. i try renaming the 'steamnew' but again no luck

i turn off all virus protection and firewall and try it again - it still refuses to work.
so i get a little more desperate.

i completely uninstall of all steam and download a brand new one. double click on the shortcut, updates, comes up with the error again.

so i get really angry and unistall everything of valve, steam, HL2, CSS, SDK, everything. i then go find my five HL2 CDs and put them in and install. after about an hour it is finished and steam goes to update. I desperately watch as the numbers reach '26%' and dissapear to show the same hated error message.

i have tried everything i can think of. i have poured over the steam support and read the same thing: ' get rid of spyware and it will work '. so i was wondering have any of you fixed this annoying problem? if so how?
