most beautiful, emotional song for me is
above & beyond - no one on earth (gabriel & dresden remix)
but for songs that you guys know it would have to be
dire straits - romeo & juliet
dire straits - brothers in arms
coldplay - the scientist

I fixed it!
If you just want something that sounds fantastic, Stone Temple Pilots: No Memory. Golden Brown by The Stranglers is good (Sounds pretty because of the 12 string acoustic)
Never is a Promise by Fiona Apple ... um ... Like Spinning Plates (Live/Piano only) by Radiohead. Then again, most RH songs are made for ritual suicide! So, they're prone to be beautifully written (not sung, by any means, Thom York has goat entrails for vocal chords)
I think "End Music (for a film)" takes the cake though.
Cold Play is like Radiohead, but talented. Most of their stuff is very nice, except Yellow, I hate that song so much.
A bunch of foreign songs ... classical music ... there's too much to come to concise "winner" of sorts. Not to mention, some of the songs you guys are listing I find to be hideously written music.

Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies - I beleve I can Fly
Prince/Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies - Purple Rain
The Foundations - Build me up Buttercup
John Denver - Leaving on a Jet Plane

Baz Luhrmann - Sunscreen
Tsunami Bomb - Lemenade
Tsunami Bomb - Take The Reins
The Cardigans - Lovefools
Clint Mansell - Summer Overture (The theme tune from Requiem For a Dream)

So far only three songs have been put forward more than once:
Comfortably numb (1979)
Vincent (1971)
In my life (1965)
Aaah! The old 'uns are the best.

Lol, the song I mentioned was already a traditional carol when it was first put into print in 1710! Think of how good it must be! Download it!

Probably not most ppl's cup of tea. I enjoy stuff like that. A lot of these newer songs that have been mentioned kinda lost thier appeal when I found out what the artists were like. And some just because my ex likes them.

I think "End Music (for a film)" takes the cake though.
agreed, that song almost made me cry.
I think your being a little hard on tom, he doesn't have a great voice, but I dont think anyone could do his music any better. I saw radiohead live and I must say it was the best show I've ever seen, tom really kicked ass.
I dont think there can be one song that is most beautiful becuase music (at least to me) is tied to memory. Placebo and Cake are tied to kinda painful times in my life, so they are more emotional than they may be for other people. Radiohead is tied to alot, but for the most part, happy times.
btw... whats that site that logs your music over winamp? (offtopic i know)

killswitch engage - rose of sharyn
lost prophets - last summer (imo great song for playing at those last gatherings in summer before everyone leaves for uni, college, work etc)

something off of hole - celebrity skin, maybe reasons to be beautiful
probs not the most accurate list of what i think sounds beautiful but im not going through all my music 1st thing in morning

Cannibal Corpse - "Ripping Entrails From a Virgin's c**t"
yes its a real song, no it isn't beautiful....anyway, now that I've got your attention....
Apparently none of you think country music is beautiful.
Country:
Alabama - Dixieland Delight
Faith Hill - Breathe
Non-country:
Blackmore's Night - Midwinters Night
Air - Cherry Blossom Girl
Enya - Return to Innocence
Doobie Brothers - Black Water
Come What May - Ewen McGregor & Nicole Kidman
Seriously guys, the music listed above is very beautiful. If you can't listen to it and get a nice, warm, soft portion of your heart beating when you listen to those tracks, you must be a cold stone. Very nice, soothing tracks.

I am a cold stone... but speaking of country songs...
John Denver - Take Me Home, Country Roads
Not sure if I'd call it one of the most beautiful songs ever, but it's awesome regardless.

Don't get me wrong, I love Radiohead ... I know it doesn't sound like it, but I do. However, he can't sing. Being that as it may, no it wouldn't work with many other singers.
BLAH, did I say "End Music"? I meant "Exit Music".
