http://www.google.com/talk/index.html

Think it only works with gmail accounts so far. Still lacks many of the functions of msn, for example, but I'm sure they'll make a whole bunch of improvements in the nearest future.

If you haven't got a gmail account, send me a PM with your mail and I'll gladly send you an invite. If you have a gmail account, hurry up and try this app!

no, no, no! Its awesomeness is the few features and simple interface. It's like old-school ICQ, no bloat!

KFS, I agree, but still, the ability to send files would be nice. And if it could be used to talk with people using msn.

Using both MSN and ICQ, I dont need another messenger. This does seem slick though, simple is always good and less is more. Im so sick of all this nonsense that MSN has going on. I dont want your smileys, dating links, nonsense fucntions or f**king background themes, GO KILL YOURSELFS.
Cough, anyway. I will see if it gets popular enough for me to jump the band-wagon.
Otz, if both users have gmail accounts you might aswell send files via those.
It would be cool if you could chat to nubs on MSN through it but I doubt that will ever happen. I suppose trillian is meant to work as that though.

Oh yeah, heres a good quote from the #snarkpit.
[17:26:23] <JannemaN> everyone use msn because thats the only IM program old girlfriends can use

Well aze...

? quoting Google chat "about" page
Today, with instant communications, you can't talk to your contacts or buddies in one service while using another service. We hope to change that.

They are planning in letting people use it to talk to people on other services, so fingers crossed that will include MSN.

I knew Google Talk is going live today, but isn't it ironic that I couldn't Google "Google Talk" and get a proper URL link to it?

I had to come to the SnarkPit to get to the download link. Thanks.

[Edit]: I like the simple interface. In fact, it's down right cute. I think I am in love.

Just downloaded and have it running - nice program. I hope this one catches on. I'm pretty sure that Google Adwords will make an appearance before too long, but you never know, maybe they'll keep it clean for the time being...

I'm sticking with good ol' trillian, connect to everything! Eventually someone will make a google talk plugin, so I'll have that too. I just like having ICQ, MSN, AIM and IRC in one program- keep the whole communication with others as one easy task.

That's one thing which sets Google products apart from the rest--they are well-designed and elegant. None of the bloat-ware product MS pushes out.

I reckon google is a company of Microsoft, but secretly funded so the courts won't know :P How else would they have enough money to do everything they have, and produce such amazing stuff? And microsoft have dug themselves a bad name, maybe google is the new microsoft?

Myrk-, how about I give you the finger... .|.. and you won't say Google is founded by Microsoft <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif">

Anyway, I hope Google makes GoogleTalk one of the best and simple IM programs out there, makes it compatible with MSN and other popular IM networks, webcam and sound capabilities (okay, we already HAVE sound <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif">, but I mean also with other networks :P), file transferring, other sorts of interesting features (which can be added to interface using the "preferences" link. Also I hope they will make one for Linux and Mac aswell <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

Anyhow, I think Google should make their own Operating System... or make a linux distro... <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif"> Googenux or Linoogle ... or GoogLenux <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif">

I guess you missed that little tid bit of news about the Google IPO last year. Believe me, they have LOTS of money, and it's no mystery where it came from!
