I don't think that guards have HEV suits...

The original Half-Life came out way before that, and it has excellent gameplay, even for today's standard.
Only by three years. I think opposing force had better game play though. At least I enjoyed it way more (I'm excited for you, since you'll get to play it once you finish HL)
But, yes, I was restricting myself to computer games that came out in 2001. Not to mention the next year Allied Assault came out, which is a wonderful game.

I chose the last one. I pretty much hate valve and steam and Half-Life and all it's little friends. I only like the mapping. And maybe a LAN now and again.

I'm pretty
much with Nickelplate here. I never got accustomed to steam. It never was useful to me. And I didn't really enjoy Blue Shift. I couldn't develop an atmosphere to dive into.
Maybe I need to replay it some time in order to enjoy it.

I mean... I understand they are aliens but running into a room and
having vortigaunts spawn both in front of you and behind, over and over
and over again get's old pretty fast. Compared to HL1 and Op4 it
just didn't seem as fun.
Did anyone else notice how many clip brushes they used to keep you from
getting to places you couldnt? I miss the freedom of movement
(and ability to kill yourself by jumping off train platforms).
Also, the additional dialogue for Blue Shift seemed slowly spoken... as if the actors were comatose during recording.

Ah screw it.....Chumtoads Lair is in Xen....when you are crawling
through the crawl tunnels, you will pass through a room with a health
spa and a very deep pond. Sit in the 'spa' until you have 100% health
(you will need every % to get to the lair.) Then, jump into the pond
and go straight down, not stopping for the ammo you see on the side or
you'll drown. When you get to the bottom, search the walls for a small
crack (it may take you a few trys till you find it.) then hack away
with your crowbar a bunch of times....it will eventually give way so
you can swim through to the lair.
Have fun!

This was on Steam yesterday, but, I guess I'll put it up here if anyone is interested. The High-Definition Pack is (finally) being released on Steam. I believe they said it's coming out this week.

I saw that....too bad I already just played through it.....maybe I'll
just check it out to see what the models look like...I like the old
snarks though, not the weird egg pods.
Is this high def pack just for BS? Is there one for HL1 & Op4?

The HD pack is weird. They changed the MP5 to an M4A1. Sure, it makes more sense to have a grenade launcher on one, but you now have a 9mm M4 with a 50 round clip. Also, the old shotgun looked better.
Not that HL was ever all that realistic, but it was an unneccesary addon. Like the incessant CSS player model updates.

Wow, didn't even notice i got it. I'll maybe play it.............. maybe...
It sucked though, you never get to meet freeman, even though you're
barney, and in HL2 source he's all friendly to Gordon and claims to
have met him like he where some old friend? :S

On the Eight day, god created func_details, and he saw that it was fast.

Different Barney. You also have to remember that in HL1 all the "barneys" you ran into shortly thereafter died. And you "see" Gordon plenty of times in BS. Of course they're not going to have him talk, because of Valve's stance on how "that would detract from placing you in Gordon's shoes", even though you're not playing as him in this game, it still stands, I suppose.
Also, remember that HL1 happens one day you come into work. The security guards (pre-accident) are quite friendly with you and know who you are.
Personally, I would have questioned the scientist characters and alien slaves more then anything else. But, it's just stuff they never talked about in hl1, so it's easily concievable.
