I thought with there being quite a few guitarists that there should be a thread for us to chat and discuss.

I'll start it off with something BioPulse found. Its a spinkee website teaching loads of cool tricks etc.

http://www.guitarshredshow.com/

Has some really interesting effects, but I can't do some of them (my amp is wierd and bassy and I'm sure number 8 is achievable only on a strat shaped guitar).

Music you play-
Heavy metal (your usual stuff), death metal (Soilwork/In Flames), a bit of rock here and there (like Foo Fighters or The Hives) and occasionally some obscure stuff.

Favourite Guitarist/s (and why)-
Mattias IA Eklundh - Aka "Freak Guitar", hes master of harmonics, and does some really neat sweeping and other stuff that most other guitarists don't do (such as a chainsaw effect that I recently worked out).

Dave Mustaine - I love megadeth, and the riffs and solos are always that little bit more interesting than other bands have to offer. Alot of odd notes pop in here and there.

Marty Friedman - Amazing guitarist, does alot of wierd notes like Dave Mustaine, but he does it at insane speeds, and often does solos that are in a different key to the backing riff.

Equipment-
I have a Warlock Platinum pro with EMG 81's and floyd rose (its my main guitar) then I have a warlock bronze (which I tune to B tuning) and a Squier Strat which I tune to anything else (cus its crap, but its also my only guitar with normal pickups instead of humbuckers). I then use a Line 6 Spider 150w amp. Also have glass slide, capo and all those little gubbinz...

I also play drums, but I won't go into that.

Music I play-

Classic rock, mostly. I play loads of Zeppelin, Hendrix, AC/DC... you know... good music <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

Favourite Guitarists-

Jimmy Page, because he was what made Zeppelin happen. And since they're the best band ever, it's wrong not to like him.

Hendrix, because he was the one who helped start it all

Chuck Berry, for the same reasons as Hendrix

The guitarist from Queen. (forgot his name) because him and freddy Mercury kicked so much ass togerther.

Equipment-

Nothing special. I have a DeArmond 6-string electric (cheap fender ripoff)

I'm getting a very sexy acoustic guitar hopefull soon. (my dad said he'd get me one, I just don't know when)

I have a Fender amp, not sure about anything else, but it's quite small.

Overdrive/Distortion, Chorus, and T-Wah pedals.

Glass slide - Best kind

Capo

/me gets jealous thinking about the post that the doc might make

anyone that plays an acoustic should put in some serious hours on a 12 stringer, if only to feel how easy a 6 stringer is afterwards.

Favourite Guitarists:

Buckethead, Slash, my dad

Equipment:

Got a Framus Dual-Guitar (or whatever it is called - 6 String and 12 String - Like the one at French Toast's Avatar) - I can't play on it but I am trying to learn how to play the 5-String bass.

I am still a newbie in guitar-related stuff but this is my dad's last year on the band so I can use all the guitars of him from now on. Hopefully I am able to play well in the future.

Music: I mostly play my own stuff. I created a style that I call the mettalic blues(Blues based metal). It's based mostly on the Em,Am and gM pentatonics and polytonics.

Fav Guitarists: Slash of Guns n' Roses, Bob Dylan, the lead guitarist of Billy Idol, Lead Guitarist of ZZ-Top.

My Gear: I make do with what i have. My guitar is a 1998 Marshal Fat Rocket. My amp is a 45 watt marshall mg with a built in valve tone converter. I'm getting a G&L Commanche guitar.

I can put some music on my Comp and let anyone listen to it. Mettalic blues is pure ownage for those who understand the true way of the guitar.

I don't see the hype about Gibsons... Sure its good for some stuff, but theres other guitars out there, and more recently I've come to realise it almost doesn't matter- IA plays on the worst Caprison guitar there is, and look at him go!

Also, if you look on ebay worldwide, you'll occasionally see triple neck guitars! Crazy. I've always wanted a dual neck flying V like Mustaine used to use live. 12 string on top, 6 string with trem on bottom. Pure l337ness. No Chorus pedal ever sounds as good as a 12 string.

Finally, anyone here tried making thier own guitar? I'm in the planning stages of mine atm, but waiting a bit before I get a good book on it. Gunna try and slip in every little method and trick there is, from mini cavities to spinkee electronics, and 27 frets o' goodness Apart from that all I know about my guitar is that its gunna be a semi neck-thru, 6 strings, floyd rose and the finish will be natural with white wash and some coloured strip on it.

Music you play-
Anything accousticable. Mostly classical or finger-style stuff.

Favourite Guitarist/s (and why)-
Bill Mize because of The Road Scholar, Eric Clapton because, well duh!, Eric Johnson A song for life, Yngwie Malmsteen.

Equipment-
I play a 1960's Alvarez Regent.

I tried sniffing coke, but the ice cubes kept getting stuck in my nose.

Indeed. I did most of the work in making my friends Flying V. It was pretty sweet. We spent a lot of time in his dads shop making everything.

Oh, great experience <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

Yer foo! Also, what are scalloped frets like to play on? From what Malmsteem said (he invented scalloped frets on guitars) he said it slows you down, but makes the notes clearer... Is this true Dr Brasso?

long day....whew.....short hours.....whew... <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

64 strat...never gets played
74 les paul custom w/ pearl finish , pearl and gold inlay, also, never gets played
59 gibson st125 acoustic, also, never gets played
59 es 335, red, also, never gets played <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

ive got all kinds or stuff laying around thats accumulated over the years, art effects, stomp boxes, etc etc....enough guitar parts to probably build 4 or five complete "frankensteins"....muhahaha

lets see....

drums....rogers single bass 9 piece w/ zildjans and sabiens
all sorts of perc stuff frombongos and congas and blocks and shaker s**t to chimes and bells to, well, even a digeree do (sp?)

basses....ibanez 86 something or other..... early 70's fender precision.....early 70's richenbacher stereo

keys....dx7, old moog ms20 synth, oberheim bx, upright and baby grand piano

what else.... well, such a comglomeration of s**t that i wont bore ya with all of it.....i can outfit 2 bands with full pa's, and record them in the basement....

......and page, hendrix, and clapton were, and still are, the s**t...<img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_wink.gif"> alot of firsts associated with those guys in my life....wink wink <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_wink.gif">
malmsteen, satriani, vai, shredders deluxe......

theres more, ill update later maybe....

yep, scallops slow ya down, but they add a dynamic to to note textures that is really nice...the lesser material of a scalloped fret as applied by the fingertips results in less backing pressure and a cleaner more uniform tone....but its not for everyone....its actually a much different feel imho: you can float too far off intonation especially during sloer riffs where the applied pressure is not as automatically uniform.....follow? a natural shredder trained on a scalloped fretboard will sound cleaner because the string is sounding by more of a bend than an impact. example....vai is faster, but malmsteen is cleaner and more melodic...and both shred like theres no tommorrow....but....stevies 64th notes will be just a hair faster than yngwies....

Doc B...:dodgy:

....so. lets chat then guitarists. i can kill a topic better than anyone i know. please dont let this be the one that proves it...

fishman....which is exactly why i dont play em ....once in a blue moon....maybe. but when i get wound up with a good axe in my hands, i can get...well....a little rambunctious...and they devaluate exponentialy.....

ill have to dig out , or take, some photos and ya might appreciate what im saying a bit more....

a couple are worth some bucks bud. changes the whole game.

....fatstrings....post away man. i play much percussion as well, we just havent gotten that far in the post yet.///

where are my manners??....myrk, thats a sweet set of guitars there m8. impressive to look at....ive always been fond of the action on bc rich guitars for shredding, and the designs are cool for dramatic stage shows....i used to have a warlock and a "Bitch"....fast....whew. i had a problem with the balance vs "appendages stickin' out of it" aspect tho ....got cumbersome

its what you grow with man, as a guitar becomes an appendage. you find the zone, feel the meld, work as a team. heart ans soul man, heart and soul......i still have parts of my first guitar.....litterally wore it out.

however.

when you speak of gibsons, the first thing that comes to mind for me is a pearl white les paul custom. it is my stratovarious....(sp?) you can hook any effects or rack to it, and you will , and you can still tell its a les paul. same with true strats from way back when. old pauls and strats are worth alot of cash for that very reason. and with both, imho, they sound the best clean straight to a good amp rig...loud.........maybe a slight compression , but not much else. then they are at their best.

frenchtoast, im stealing your avatar. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/heee.gif">

Some images in this post have been automatically down-sized, click on them to view the full sized versions:

The Bich is a very sharp edges guitar I have to admit, but I find the warlock to be a nice shape. Also fits on your knee really well too, unlike flying V's (which look cool, but you can't play them sitting down!)

On the note of me building a guitar, if anyone has any ideas for shapes or anything, even rough pictures for ideas, I'd appreciate it as I can't think of anything yet!

Finally, I had a feeling this thread would wander, so now its all about all instruments, not just guitars. I also play drums, so I'll start off the percussion section with a boom!

Sorry for the crappy photo If anyone wants to know whats there exactly (theres alot more than you see! then check the txt document >here<). I've been playing for just over a year, play death and heavy metal (can't quite do double peddling as fast as Judas Priest lol!). My kit is very unique though- it is infact a tripple bass- one of my pedals requires me to use my toe and heel to double bass with 1 foot (which I still can't do that fast) but when combined with the other single foot it creates the fastest triplet you'll ever hear! (which one day I may duplicate to make it quadrouple bass!).

This kit is currently up for sale too! I'm saving to buy a Roland TD-20 electronic kit, but its gunna crater my finances! Has to be done though- from september onwards I can't play that thing, because I'm living on a middle floor flat! Hardly think my neighbours above and below will appreciate alternate snare and bass bashing at extreme speeds Even when I go electric, I'm still getting another bass as soon as I can afford one- Single bass really is crap now tbh- I'll never go back!

I use my brothers bass to play Chili Peppers songs. I also play Sax, but not that superbly.

Aight, here be my array of subpar instruments.

From left to right; My electric, my brothers bass, my acoustic, my first guitar

Keep in mind that the pictures aren't great. FOr instance, the bass is huge, and my first guitar is tiny, it just doesn't come across in the photos well.
