As far as I know, it's coming out in November 2005.
But does anyone know whether it can load custom maps on the XBox platform? I don't have any console myself, so I don't know much about them.
At least it'll allow all the people who can't afford to buy a new computer to play the game.

I think it's just HL2 and (maybe?) Lost Coast. No multiplayer or coop announced.

No, it's being released on the Xbox. The thing's probably done already.
It's just hl2 ... as far as I've read. They specifically said no multiplayer. And obviously, you can't mod it. Name some console games that you can mod like any pc game.
Apparently, the textures, models, and some other stuff is at a far lower quality, but, I've read they actually improved shadows, since the xbox's video card was specially designed and has some special pixel shader registers, or something.

No, the N64 was an okay console just because it had okay games. Nothing "fantastic". However, NES (SO many), SNES (At one point Square WAS good), Saturn (Panzer Dragoon, Astal, D), Dreamcast (Too Many to name), even Genesis (Comix Zone, Sonic, Vectorman), and the newer consoles all have at least one "must own" game (ICO, Silpheed, Ikaruga (DC and GC), Eternal Darkness, MGS3, Symphony of the Night, Persona, The Resident Evil remakes are fantastic, etc [Xbox doesn't count since all it's "best" are on computer anyway]). If you want to go even deeper, the reason to own an MSX is Metal Gear 1 and 2 ... not that it's in English or anything. (MGS3 Sustenance is going to have complete ports of both
)
As for FPS on console, I'd agree, except some of them are made pretty well. Apparently it's pretty easy to control Halo because of the dual analog sticks. But, before, the games actually gave time to aiming and such (Medal of Honor and Underground). But there's really only a handful that are made properly. Pretty much all the new ones have God awful controls.

I only play FPS's, and that's why I'll never own a console. My friend wants to give me his PS2, but I declined.

Halo in the console is much funner on the console. There I said it =P. If youve played both, then you know the console is better, not because of the shere drop in frames that the PC has, but because of the controler. Just try it. But other then that Ill agree with everything said. The console controls just arent accurate enough fot FPS (with the acception of halo because you straif to help aim).
I think it has more to do with halo being a bad game than anything else. But seriously, halo was never really meant for PC as far as I can tell. I've played it on xbox, its the best FPS I've played on a console since Goldeneye (but its about 1/4 as good as that). I'd never own a console for the same reason as Satchmo. French Toast has the right idea, if you have a PC you dont really need any other electronic equipment. A PC can play movies, receive TV, you can play games on it, what more could you want?

It was origanly being designed for the pc I beleve and a little promo shot of it was on the back of the Voodoo 5 boxes.
But as for consoles I'm not a big fan of them for fps games I preffer the pc for that but nothing can compare to sitting around the tv having a game of tekken or ready to roumble with your mates while having a few beers as well.
I havent been tempted to buy a xbox or ps2 not enough games on there that would justify the cost of the console infact no xbox games have taken my fancy and only Final Fantacy X and X2 would be the reasons I would get a ps2. But if Sega had made another console I would have no doubt got that. I would get a GC if I could afford it just for the donky kong bongos and if I see one on ebay for as cheap as I got my dreamcast for I'll probably bid on it.

Based on my assumptions and my knowledge of Xbox games, I'd say it will have multiplayer, but not coop. You can always put more maps on it- Xbox's do have Hard drives- you can download new maps for any game for the Xbox really.

Before i start my rant i have to say: Halo and Halo 2 are sooo fun!
Now, I think that HL2 should have never been put over to console. it actually depresses me to see the genius of source put to console. it will never be the same. they will leave out alot of important stuff: Graphics (i doubt that a measly 750mhz xbox could handle full Hl2 graphics), probably the physics (well actually i think they will be more cut down then left out) and gameplay (they will either take out levels and make the game gay and completable 3 hours max (eh Doom 3 on xbox anyone?) or add ridiculous extra levels that have no point)
sure valve will make more money for the console export but i have seen too many games fail when they are changed from platform to platform. also Hl2 is a PC game, it always will, it just wont be the same on an xbox!
i think hl2 should stay hl2 on PC.
/end rant

EA only distributes....Valve is the one developing. EA has no say in how the game is made...

When HL2 gets ported to the XBox, the graphics suffers in regards to
pixelation and non-antialiasing. The physics stays the same, but
there are less physics objects in the game (none of those trash things
and movable objects in the PC version).
And yes, the game will probably be shorter. Ravenholm will
definitely stay, but I am not sure about levels such as "Follow
Freeman" or "Black Mesa East".
