Bitch as you will, but the bottom line is that it is a brilliant system to help keep track of all your games, buy/download products, and distribute updates. That's right, the update thing is a good idea. Lot's of people wine about it, and I know that trying to keep all of the customers on the same page, with the same versions of the game is a bad move, but I still support it.

Granted, Valve has their problems. All companies do. Granted, they got greedy. However, they are still an excellent company that has helped the industry a lot.

Anyhoo, It's 4:30, I thought DoD was to be released at 3:00. I still can't download it. I'm upset. I want to play. What gives.

This is just a guess but maybe they're talking about 3:00 PM PST. Which would mean you have another hour and a half to wait.

Well, I've got it now. It's 6:20, just decrypted the files. The only thing now, it says that my transaction is still pending... I used a credit card. Now I have to wait until it completest the transaction before I can play. That better not take another week or something...

I tried to start it and it froze my computer on the menu screen. I guess I'll wait a while before trying it again, and hope any issues are sorted out.

About 5 minutes after I posted, I tried it agian. It worked like a charm. I've been playing the last hour, and it's pretty god damn super awesome.

Right now, my only real complaint, is that every f**king server has 1000 ping. I don't know if it's people who want to try to run it at max, or people's machines aren't good enough, but almost every server had ping through the roof. I got onto one server at 50 ping, and stayed for about 45 minutes. That was the best one. God I lvoe avalanche <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

I'm not gonna try to play DoD:S on my laptop, even though it could handle it on the lowest settings. I want to wait till Thanksgiving break to get the full effect on my desktop!

Host some images on imageshack.us and link them here. I want to see some fresh shots!

The problem with the high ping that you get is because many people have issues connecting to servers so they just make listen servers at home. Issues will be resolved but its gonna take time, just like HL2 and CSS.

Valve are a great team but their problem is hurrying their projects so they can make their already delayed deadlines. And thats where all the bugs and issues with their games comes from.

PATIENCE MY MINIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ATM, the only screenies I'll show you are lower quality versions of the ones all around the internet. I'm running it on my laptop right now on default settings. Not going to bother it on my desktop, my laptop is faster <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif">

I am a brilliant person who is perfectly capable of doing all these things himself. I can go down to a store and buy a game, If i wanted to wait an assload of time before testing one of my maps, I'd download the updates myself, I dont need it automatically. I can keep track of my own games, What does that REALLY mean anyway? it tells you what games are on your system? Who doesn't know what games they have installed. "Oh look, HL2! when did that get on here?!11"

My favorite part of Steam is being able to access all my purchases from any computer. When my new computer arrived I didn't have to hunt down all my CDs... I just downloaded the Steam Installer and began downloading the games I wanted.

It's so convenient if you have a fast internet connection.

Played some pretty long sessions on both Anzio and Avalanche, and it gets my seal of approval. As french toast mentioned, its pretty super laggy just now, but hopefully the network performance will get smoothened out soon enough.

I would just like to say that Anzio looks f**king awesome...I can't wait until my 6800gt arrives back so I can test it out properly with HDR and all <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_wink.gif">

That was sarcasm. It's a good system. Keeping everyone on track, with the same versions etc. is a good move. Maybe my sarcasm is too advanced, but I figured it was clear.

Indeed Reno, the maps look awesome. It's a lot of fun to wander around and remember the maps as they were in HL1. I was worried they'd really f**k up the ports of them, and add parts that shouldn't be added etc. etc.

My only real quarrel with the maps, is that tree in the middle of Avalanche. Granted the Allies needed some cover when running around that bend while I raped them withmy MG, but I just don't like it.

On that note, the Axis (can't remember what they started calling them) MG is frieking awesome. Total killage awesomeness.

So much for an... nevermind. It's not worth it.

Anyways.

Yeah, HDR is really really nice. It really added to the feel of the game.

Kick ass <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

I must be dumb, because I don't see anything snazzy about those shots. What exactly is HDR doing to make those shots special?

It's not worth it.

Hence the "Y34h, ur 2 1337!!!!11"

People have different opinions and we're not going to change them because Nickelplate or French Toast says so. Might as well get along and agree to disagree.

I've got the exact same problem as you CJ, and its pissing me off. If you check out your other Source games you'll find their all f**ked as well. Once again Valve releases an update with a major game release and manages to screw over a significant portion of the community.

rant/

Edit: Good news is it now works, for me at least. If you had this problem try now and it should work.
