I know I was meaning to do this for quite some time, but recently my pc died on me and I figured it was finally time to order my gear.

Anyway, I would expect in the next couple of days to have questions about building pc's since this is the 1st time I have ever done so & this is quite a substantial part of my bank account heh.

Just wondered if anyone had any advice?

I ended up ordering:

and some black cable ties. Again, in the next few days I will no doubt have questions posted on here while I desperately try to build it. any input will be greatly appreciated. (cod2 comes out next month :P)

Nice setup mate <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif"> Don't worry too much about building it - its easier than you might expect. Plenty of people here to help you with problems too.

Building PC's is really easy, an idiot could figure it out. Everything pretty much slots together, things won't fit where they can't go. Just be really careful and make sure to eliminate static charge by grounding yourself. Apparently the tap in a kitchen sink is generally grounded, so hold onto that for a moment before removing the static proof bags.

And yes, COD2 is coming out this month. It's going to be a serious contender for Game of the Year, if it lives up to and beyond the original. Something to pre-order me thinks.

Ididn't went through that list in particular.

Just in general: Be sure to be very extremely gently with that CPU. Really!

Good luck. And don't worry: It's really easy.

I'd rather you ordered a 7800 GTX ... is is far better than mentioned X800... it also has everything you'd ever need for LC on high quality. X800 does not have Shader Model 3 methinks...

Well, to begin with. Those are ?'s not ?'s, you ignorant American pig.
Second. Type that exact question in google and I'm sure you'll find the answer.

Oh yeah, insert an imaginary light blue colour wherever you like in the above.

yeah... but twice the card, too :P And what's more - you can actually upgrade it later by purchasing additional 7800 and putting it into SLI so you'll have twice the power of 7800 <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif"> Anyway, it's so easy to upgrade it later on.

Your new system is pretty much like mine, except with a more advanced graphics card. I have a Radeon 9800Pro, which I don't really have any complaint.

I put together my first machine too, and the only tricky part was applying the thermal paste. You just need a thin layer, so don't use it like a toothpaste. The heatsink was a bit tricky too, but nothing too daunting. You do have to use a fair amount of force to get the heat sink on, and using force on your CPU can always be scary.

Generally, if you follow the instruction that comes with the motherboard and the CPU, everything should be pretty straight forward. You can ground yourself by touching the PSU, with the power cord plugged in.

Buiding the computer will be easy, the motherboard is printed with where stuff goes. Good luck with that... Hollar if you need any help. Looks like a pretty good setup.

Some images in this post have been automatically down-sized, click on them to view the full sized versions:

Getting there, all the bits are in after relatively few problems. but tbh putting wires to everything is by far the WORST bit. I hate this =/

OMG, what kind of image did you post? I cannot seem to get it all for its size/dimensions.

Is there no one here aware of 56k?

[EDIT] 1.2 freaking megs??????????

Its not the quality, its the choice of dimensions. No one has their monitors set to 2048x1536.

I saw a tutorial someplace around here on screenshot posting. I bet it could help you get a better quality result. Want me to look for it?

204k is still a bit big, but manageable. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

heh, no thanks mate. bit embarassing for a moderator to be taking screenshot advice lol. I just didnt check any of it, took it straight from the camera, I needed the size as a friend is helping me with it & needs to clearly see bits n bobs.
