Valve currently is running a beta with their new Steam UI, which is being developed to suit more games coming up.
You can see the new interface by running Steam with the following parameter:
-clientbeta betaui
Personally I like the new look. It has nice icons, it's easier to see
and the tools have a tab of their own rather than being stuffed at the
end of the list. The games list is now much more handleable now that
it's sortable by Developer, name and status.
All in all, it's still a beta but this really looks like it's becoming
more and more user-friendly. A step in the good direction if you ask me.

Mostly it's just realy slow (the old one wasn't, for you whiners), and
I have to click certain things twice, just annoying little things.
FatStrings, get over it.

Visually, I think it's a vast improvement, it actually has character now. It's also highly responsive and well-designed. If they get the friends feature working, I'll be content.

I like the steampowered.com feature within steam ...
Has anyone else had to "install" steam games ... just because the file was suddenly missing from a configuration file or something. I had HL2 installed ... and it just said I didn't ... when I install, it appears to only add it to a configuration file somewhere, since it isn't downloading anything.
Weird.
It looks ... okay ... I had a different steam skin before so, I liked that. I guess I'll have to wait for a similar one for this set up.
Some of it doesn't sit right with me though. Maybe, if there was a steam skin that made steam look like the HL2 menus (like the console) ... it looks like that's what they're after here ... kind of.
I don't like how they took the "monitor" option away. It still says what percentage you're at, but no speeds ... unless I'm just not seeing that somewhere.

Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Hl2 or CS:Source won't load up for me at all. Not sure if it was anything I did though as I was messing with drivers and tweaking stuff. When I try to run them through steam they appear momentarily in the taskbar before disappearing without any errors being displayed. Executing HL2.exe from the actual folder gives me a memory error.

Hmm looks a hell of a lot better, still needs more work obviously. They
really need to put some border round the windows though, the bottom
menu which is black just merges in with snarkpit background

Allegedly there is some sort of "under repair" notice in the friends section with the new Steam UI, but I wouldn't know since I can't get online from here.

It's a beta version, just to look at the UI. It doesn't work correctly
by far just yet so keep using the normal Steam UI untill this one is
released as full. Some options don't work correctly or just totally not
for me too, but that's not the poin of this beta...

Either create a shortcut to steam and add the parameter at the end of
the shortcut, or run steam from your windows "run" command and enter
the parameter after the path to the .exe.
