I know most of us here are all more graphics-oriented than music-oriented, but music and sounds are important aspects of games.
Not going for an argument about that (though if you want to rant about
it, go ahead), I just wondered what music you still remember from what
game.
For me, I like Frank Klepacki's
music a lot. He's the one behind the music in the Command &
Conquer series. Especially Pharotek is really nice - it mixes up the
athmospheric feeling of the game with a technical sound and beat really
good for me.
I also still remember that impressive music from Freedom Fighters. The
game itself didn't really do it for me, the music was superb. It fitted
the theme with it's Russian voices and techno-like sounds really well.
And to end this little list, I really like the music in Need for Speed
Hot Pursuit: 2. It's that sort of tunes I like while racing against my
friends. Tracks like Sphere, Wall of Shame and Going Down On It really
do it for me. They're fast, hard and inspire me to take action, to take
initiative.
So... what tracks did you remember, and how do you think they contributed to that game?

I really like Jesper Kyd. He did all the Hitman music and pretty all of IO entertainment's game music (Freedom Fighters).
I loved Freedom Fighters, it was cheap too ($10 USD), but I also played it on computer ... I know most people played it on console, and I couldn't stand those horrid controls.
Um, All the Quake games used NIN music, so that rocks.
Doom 3's theme was by Tool = awsome. (Yes, that's Tool)
Call of Duty and MoH series have fantastic music, it's all just epic orchestraded music, but it's very nice.
I can't really think of much else. There's everything Yo-Yo Ma has done. (Chrono Cross was some of the best, I think ... that was him, right?)
Then there's all the other music from a long time ago that was MIDI stuff.

I remember the original "Tron" on the arcade machine used the Beatles songs as background music. I always felt that it's very strange and inappropriate, but of course the music was memorable.

The music I remember the most is the music from command and conquer. I
still listen to them from time to time and when my friends are around
we use to listen to the music and talk about good old times.
Secondly, we have duke nukem, I really dont know why, but the intro music is simple, tough and easy to remember.
Thirdly, there is Rome: Total War. The music seemes to be taken straight from the movie Gladiator and it works incredibly well I think. I often catch myself as Im singing along in the songs sang by a woman in latin (or whatever it is).
The music in battlefield 2 is really great and i enjoy listening to it, but it isnt present in the battles, only in menus and during loading times. Which I think is a shame, sort of.

The music for Unreal Tournament was top notch. They basically got a bunch of the top guys making music in the demoscene and hired them to make tracks.

Actually, while Tool was mentioned as a possibility for doing the theme song, the theme was actually done by a band called Tweaker.
http://www.tweaker.net/home.php
As far as other games... the only music I have from videogames are (like others have stated) a few songs from Command and Conquer (namely Hell March, Act on Instinct, and Industrial), and then the opening song from Lucas Arts' classic Full Throttle. The whole soundtrack was done by the Gone Jackals, and the first song (the one in which we see the Polecats riding their bikes over the floating limo) "Legacy" is damn good.

Yeah, a lot of people said it was Him. But, then again, Tool, Trent and Tweak are all close to the same cirlce ... (sort of)
I wouldn't be surprised if either Tool or Tweaker did it. But then again, Tweaker was always the untalented part of NIN

Anyone else have fond memories of Hellmarsh from Red Alert and Mechanical Man from C&C?
I also liked the Wolfenstein 3D soundtrack. One of the songs, I remember, was a techno version of the Horst Wessel Lied which was the anthem of the Nazi Party. Wonder how they got away with that

Its an obvious and cliched one to mention, but Nobou Uematsu has done
some excellent stuff over the years for the Final Fantasy series. While
not exactly a game, the FFVII film Advent Children had a really nice
soundtrack that I've been listening to a lot lately - a fair bit of
variety in there if you ask me.
Beyond Good and Evil has a few really memorable tunes across a wide range of styles. From the rasta rhino's at "Mammago's Garage", through the suspicious sharks of "Akuda House Propaganda" and lounge lizard "Funky Bar 100", to the crazy racing tunes of "Slaughterhouse Scramble". Unfortunately the soundtrack for the most part is full of ambient tunes that fit in the game but feel a bit empty and flat without it.
Jet Set Radio and its sequel Jet Set Radio Future both have excellent soundtracks. My first reaction was "WTF? Mute!, but once you settle in to the game's unique style, the game and soundtrack become inseperable. Some of the odd experimental hip-hop tunes (Here's looking at you, Latch Brothers) are kind of a weak link, but songs like "Funky Dealer", "Concept of Love", "Oldies but Happies", and "I Like it Like That" make up what is probably my favourite game soundtrack ever. Hideki Naganuma makes some of the most interesting and unique music in the games industry, and together with some well chosen licensed music such as "Birthday Cake" by Cibo Matto and "Statement of Intent" by BiS, the Jet Set Radio series of games are worth owning for the music as much as the gameplay.

Also, the tune of Prince of Persia is still a very good one. That's one of the tracks that holds most emotion for me somehow, even though it's a midi tune. Just... wow.
