It's satisfying to blow him up into smithereens at the end.

But let me remind you that you're just a pawn played by the game designers at Valve. You basically react to the setup and traps they dreamed up for you. A player in a single-player campaign is nothing more than a puppet.
Free will is an illusion, even in the real world. We're moulded by our genetic predisposition and our environment, and all of our action and thinking are ruled by these two factors.
Before you disagree, give the idea a good contemplation first. I think you'll agree with me.

There's a HL2 promo trailer in which he says at the end:
"Well, well ... isn't this just like .. old times ?"
I love that part.

Has to be the G man. I memorised his ending speech from HL1 " SRC="images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif">
Gordon Freeman, in the flesh... or, rather, in the hazard suit. I took the liberty of releiving you of your weapons. Most of them were government property. As for the suit, I think you've earned it.
The borderworld, Xen, is in our control, for the time being. Thanks to you. Quite a nasty peice of work you managed over there, I am impressed.
That's why I'm here. I have recommended your services to my... employers, and they have authorised me to offer you a job. They agree with me that you have limitless potential.
You've proved yourself a decisive man so I don't think you'll have any trouble deciding what to do. Just step into the portal and I will take that... as a yes. Otherwise, well, all I can offer you is a battle you have no chance of winning. Rather an anticlimax after what you've just survived.
Time to choose.
