Snarkpit is/was seen as a resource full of talented people who practiced what they preached, which lent more weight to their comments - is this no longer the case do you think?
Perhaps this is the root of the issue. Consider, Snarkpit has a reputation for "Informative opinions through experience" What if this is not the path to true longevity? What if the true path to success is a combination of "Player/Mapper" viewpoints? Since I became an active member around here, I have been informed more than once that my opinion of a map is about as worthless as dog mess in the neighbors backyard. No one even considers the fact that I know what I am talking about because my profile remains void. What if I chose to keep it that way just to spite everyone?
IMO what is missing most is the camaraderie that used to be present. I am not talking about ganging up on a new member camaraderie (which seemed very prevalent when I first posted), I am talking about the kind where if a comment is made, very little if any explanation was required to be taken seriously.
I personally feel that if people would take an opinion as willingly as its given and leave the past profiles alone, the moral would elevate a bit. Call it my imagination but I am betting that quite a few people simply do not comment on maps because the reception for them is spotty at best.
I personally keep track of my profile hits. I notice a dramatic upswing every time I comment openly on a new map. This is not a good sign.
