Bill Gates in Doom "Bonus movie: Bill Gates "DOOM" video! Hate Bill Gates? Love Doom? What you are about to witness is a video that has never seen the light of day outside of the Microsoft Judgement Day event on October 30th, 1995. Alex St. John of Microsoft (one of the main men responsible for DirectX) organized a massive party that was to take place in the Microsoft garage and cafeteria, which they converted into a haunted mansion. They invited the top names in the video game industry to create their own section. Among the attendees were LucasArts, Activsion, and of course, iD Software. Outside, 12 massive guillotines were set around the exits. Activision created a small jungle section to promote the new Pitfall for Sega Genesis. A company called Zombie created a big metal sphere that shot out blue electricity. ID, however no to be outdone (much to Microsoft's dismay) hired the shock-rock band G.W.A.R. to create their set. It was an eight foot tall vagina with dildo teeth. Inside, two members of G.W.A.R. dressed in fur and raw meat attacked passerby's with rubber penises.* Here's an excerpt from the book "Masters of Doom" by David Kushner... "As the lights fell, a video screen lowered above the stage; It was time for the main event. The crowd cheered as the Doom's familiar corridors began to roll. But it was not the Doom soldier chasing the demons, it was... Bill Gates! Microsoft's fearless leader was superimposed running inside the game in a long black trench coat and brandishing a shotgun. Gates stopped running and addressed the crowd about Windows 95 as a gaming platform: A platform that could deliver cutting-edge multimedia experiences like Doom. But no sooner that he begun that an Imp monster from the game jumped out, through voice over, asked Gates for an autograph [sic]. Gates responded by raising his shotgun and blowing the beast to gory chunks. 'Don't interrupt me while I'm speaking', he said, then finished his speech. At the end, the screen went black with blood, only to be replaced with the familiar Microsoft phrase 'Who do you want to execute today?'. 'This is it', Alex thought, 'I'm going to be fired'. He went to retrieve the video, but it was gone. He could keep his job, he learned, but Microsoft was keeping the tape." Until now..." Well, he sure as hell was right about all his prophesizing.
Ie. the PC is the gaming platform of the future... etc etc.

That was an awesome book. Anyone who is interested in the Doom series should get it. I wish there was one For Half-Life....

But PC is the gaming platform of the future. Once we get rid of the windows that is... And we will once Vista comes and they cease to support XP it will die in it's own impossibility. Personally I'm becoming a linux user.

I wasn't being sarcastic... I think the PC is the gaming platform of the future as well... and that's what he said.

Vista will have limited support for OpenGL, running in 1.1 primarily,
then when you switch to 1.4 it disables the Aero theme (all the stupid
eye candy) and I'm not sure about support for anything above 1.4. I
think some companies will give in and develop solely for M$, and others
will say screw you and develop for OpenGL and Linux, either solely or
in addition to Windows. I think id will most likely be among the
companies to do that(Doom 3 and Quake 4 had native Linux support). This
will not just affect games either, OpenGL is what most 3D design
programs run on natively, and most are Windows only. It only makes
sense for them to grumble and switch to Direct3D, otherwise they would
lose their userbase and go out of business. Sadly, unless Linux becomes
easier to use for the average Joe, I don't think it will ever become
popular.

In what way has his prophecy been proven right? Consoles are a far bigger gaming platform than the PC, and many game retailers are dropping the amount of shelf space dedicated to PC games. I'm not saying it will never be the dominant gaming platform, but it sure isn't at the moment.

You're right.
I was thinking more that he correctly predicted that the PC would become a genuine platform for games. I mean... PC gaming has come a long way since Doom, and I think that's all I meant to agree with in his statement.
I'm not a PC's are better than Consoles person by any means. I enjoy both, pretty much equally.

No. Wrong. False. Impossible.
PC will NOT be the future gaming platform. PC will die out sooner or later and it will be replaced by for instance Cells. (The principle is easy - your gaming Cell will find that he can't satisfy the FPS you would like and borrows some power from your idle fridge Cell
" SRC="images/smiles/icon_lol.gif">, no seriously, it is about so).
And eventually - windows will DIE out. There is already support for XBox in Linux
" SRC="images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif">
Windows has NOTHING Linux doesn't have to offer in lot of different and alternative ways. Windows is really only an eyecandy in front of a badly organized system and to tell the truth - that DOES bother me. Viruses. If we look at viruses in Windows, you will find almost any virus to be fatal whether run from administrator or limited user. But if we look at Linux - unless you are a root - there is no possible way that you can screw up your system.
And if you hear someone say "Hey, I made a program that crashes Windows" then you reply to them easily - "Yea? I got those with Windows for free."
It is a wide-known truth that "To crash Linux, you need to work on it. But to crash Windows, you need to work with it."
What's more: "In a world without walls and fences why do we need Windows and Gates?"
Think about it, those sentences are truth, only truth and nothing bout the truth.

I have screwed up linux......I was stupid back then.
Another good sentence:Microsoft will soon releasase a new vacum cleaner; their first product that doesn't suck.
Windows really does suck. Vista is horrible. Vista is to XP as ME is to 98.

: D
I said unless you are root!!!!! Yes, I can become root and
rm -rf /
and the whole ruddy system is gone in say... maximum of 10 minutes.
Another good way for this would be:
cat /dev/zero > /dev/hda
Anybody up to test it? : D
Anyway, Vista looks good but... right now it is too raw to be used.
