Well if a map has a leak, then that pretty much means that it's more than just a cube combined with the hollow tool. A step in the right direction? <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/heee.gif">

Notice the dust cobblestone road texture was used as a triangular roof? Is it possible to think of a worse use of texture?

Oh yeah, make a large surface filled with repetitive texture. That's how you do it.

Here?s how a 5/5 map looks like: http://www.cstrike-planet.com/maps/643

So who cares it?s an iceworld clone? It?s fun! And who really gives a damn that it?s uglier than the hl1 one? It?s got gameplay! And what kind of a lunatic would care that decency has gone to heck the moment this got a 5/5? Cloning copies of cloned killbox clones is the l337 thing to do.
At least make some original killboxes.

The funny thing is it is rated 5/5 and has more than 1k downloads, but the zip file is empty.

But hey, it deserves a 5/5 because it's not full bright and it has no leak.

I can't see why anyone is shocked at this sort of thing. It's not like this is a new occurance. The stupidity of the mapping 'community' and the people who run the servers and play the maps is staggering, and nothing will change.

Custom mapping is dead, let it die already.

Check this out. It's from the same website, and it's a very nice looking map.

Mapping is alive and well. Just look at the SnarkPit.

Did he make those billiard balls out of brushes?

Looks like it. They look hexongonal instead of spherical.

It doesnt surprise me a bit, all of these maps excist because its to easy to compile a map.

As an example i will take the flightsimmulator community, most of the planes out there are of a certain quality standard, mainly because a good knowdledge of the programs is required to use them. Offcourse you got your occasional plane that fails to texture a yoke in the VC. But you hardly see those anymore.

hahaha wrong map to promote. I don't even have to download it to know it sucks and here's why:

1. based on a real house layout
2. uses cs_mansion style gameplay which was never good or fun
3. author promotes 'fast paced' and 'tons of physics props' which might as well be code words for 'fy_ map' and 'fun map'
4. absolutely brutal brushwork

but give me an hour or three to run through it so I don't get accused of being an ass or assuming things

The brushwork does look primitive (like my first map of my apartment), but at least it's not thrown together in a couple of minutes with no light entity.

Indeed, but just because it's a step up above a 10 min box doesn't mean that it should be posted on the internet for download or promoted across websites. However no doubt this map has been praised for its awesomeness and is being run on hundreds of CSS servers.

Aren't you being a little too harsh with this map? Sure, its unoriginal and the billiard balls are huge and blocky, but let's play it first, so that we'll have proper ammunition for our flame cannons later.

I've actually played that map. It was nothing special, the rooms and halls were too short and narrow (probably a result of direct unit conversion). Some people like it, most I've encountered don't.

Now, now, 5 minute maps aren't that bad

If they can make something in that time frame (bearing in mind that won't know what the hell they're doing - if they do they should be commiting themselves to grander projects) then they are commenably skilled!

But seriously, I don't know whats worse: the fact that people release these maps (making them is perfectly fine - my test maps are often in fullbright unless I'm actually testing out lighting) or the fact that people play these maps.

An aim maps can be fun. Though that view might be biased from the fact that the only aim maps I've played are aim_inquistion (by me) and aim_canal (which is of a high quality. Check the interlopers downloads section)

I actually played that map randomly on a server a long time ago, it was before it had the pool table and stuff. It was alright so far as personal house maps go, but it was pretty laggy before and I can't see it being better now that it's stocked full of props and more junk. It's by no means something I'd want on a rotation, but it's one of those maps to do stupid stuff with friends.
