I dont know about USA and stuff, but here they are EXPENSIVE! A mini costs
US$466, a Ipod $666 and a Ipod Photo about $1000.

I would love to change the world, But they would'nt give me the source code.

Yeah it's really not that expensive here in the US. I'd say you're paying double what everyone else is. You can just head to the apple site and see for yourself.

I have actually wondered about some other mp3 players that look similar to iPods, but are much cheaper. I'm not in it for the fasion statment, rather than the fact that they are high quality gadgets, and I don't want something that's not going to last me awhile.

I'm hoping to get to Best Buy/Future Shop tonight, and take a look at some of the goods.

All I can really recommend is research heavily on the net before deciding. Look at the models they've got at FS as it often depends on the particular store sometimes. A LOT of the ones that are cheaper are actually easier to use and are just as tough.

Get an Ipod and I will never speak to you, ever. You will be pure evil and rejected from the pit.

THanks for the kind words, Myrk <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

Anyhoo, my dad bought a new laptop at Best Buy and get's a free mp3 player with it. It usually only has 512 meg of space, but he bought a 1 gig chip for it. So I've got that, and if I can fit all my stuff on it, then it'll suffice. However, I'm pretty sure I've got much more than 1 gig of music...

I did a little looking on the internet, and now have pretty much put myself off an iPod. There are much better deals out there. THank god for you guys, or I'd be out 300 bucks...

I almost got an ipod, until i realized that cd decks that say "Ipod Ready" means it just has an aux port, not an ipod only connection. So i can plug in my ICE Mp3 Player, whew close one!

You could probably get it cheaper if you ordered it from an American site...

After reading Tracer Bullet's post and some research, I'm thinking about getting a 1GB Creative Muvo TX FM; the cheapest price seems to hover around $120. I'm not really concerned with how it looks, I just want it to be easy to use and lightweight.

I have a MuVo TX, though it's not a radio one and only has 256mb. It functions nicely and I'm generally happy with it, particularly how it seperates from the battery segment to become a USB key, so no need for wires. My main dislikes with it are the track change wheel which is hard to use without getting your hands on it directly - using it through a jacket pocket, or with snowboard gloves on for that matter, is a tricky endeavour!

I need a lot of space on mine. I'd die with 256 meg, especially with about 350 mg of Zep tunes alone, I need more.

Okay, this mp3 player that I have is a piece of s**t. Like, it's just terrible. I'm going to have to go to Best Buy now and look around...

I use mine for snowboarding/ice skating, popping to the shops, train rides, and so on. 256mb is plenty for a couple of hours of music, which serves those purposes well enough. I also have a PSP with a 1gb memory stick if I am going somewhere more significant, so a small physical size and practicality matter more to me in an mp3 player than capacity or features. That said, I wouldn't say no to improvement in those areas also <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif">

At the time I bought it MuVo's TX's only came in sizes up to 256mb. Unfortunately for me, about 3 months after I bought it there were larger capacity models released and the prices had dropped so much that I could have picked up the 512mb model for LESS than I paid for the 256 <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/sad.gif"> Such is life though, I guess.

I am not exactly positive who coined the phrase but I think it was P.T. Barnum.

Every time I see a gizmo of this nature his famous words always pop into my head. Something about "a fool and his money"...or was it, "theres one born every minute"? I can't ever keep those idioms straight. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/sad.gif">

I have been thinking. Anyone have a comment on converting audio books to MP3? This mountain of disks I have in my briefcase is getting annoying. I hardly have room left for my calculator and eye liner. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_lol.gif">

Just Google for a converter, you'll get what you're looking for.

I think I have pretty much decided what I want, I justneed money or Christmas to come now.

/methinks I'll probably end up with this. The Creative Zen Micro 5GB mp3 player with FM tuner black. It's got good space, and isn't too costly.

I'll look a little more, and unless you advise me otherwise, will probably have this within a month.

You're paying $229 for a 5GB mp3 player?

I only payed $299 for my 20 GB iPod, which is about $100 USD more than what you are looking at there, but I have 4x the HD space on it...

...If nothing else, get an iPod for its ease of use...

And to all these people saying that there is no alternative to iTunes if you are using an iPod- Not true. I've got 18 GB of music on my iPod and none of that was put there with iTunes. I don't even have iTunes installed on my computer. There are lots of (better) programs out there now that you can download in place of your Apple iPod software.
