? quoting fishy
you wouldn't need to update anything ever again, and you'd still be able to play what's already on your comp. you might even get away with playing new maps for a while, but eventually there would be compatability issues.
Cool, and Thanks.
Maps, When I got dialup almost all the wind was driven out of my sails as far as maps go. The very idea that I couldn't play anything I made just irks.
Images that take 3+ minutes and zip files that take upward of 40 are not conducive to mapping.

In addition, the players can't pick up objects as you would in HL2. Physcis props just get in the way most of the times.
You can move them by nudging them with your body in CS:S, but it's a painful way to move things.

I've found that crouching behind a fallen barrel and slowly rolling it
in the desired direction results in fairly efficient and mobile cover.

Well it looks like the beta sdk is no longer beta, at least mine seemed to update to the new version by itself today. The only problem is my advance compile window has lost all its parameters. Completely blank. I can however compile in normal mode, but thats no fun. Can anybody copy there advanced deathmatch compile parameters here so I can put them back?

No. I had to replace mine too ... it isn't too hard though AND there's a tutorial
The compile box is the only thing that gets blanked out. So all the settings are still there (obviously, since Normal compile worked).

I reverted. The new features weren't that important to me, and I've
already memorized the location of (the important) props anyway. Skew
tool and arrow-key navigation are just too precious to me.

WTF! I didn't do anything but close the tab and it submitted a post.
But anyway, I like the old skew tool as well, and no arrowkey
navigation when vertex editing is really annoying. I went back to the
current release. I hope they don't release it with that 'feature' and
the other bug.

The hyper-sensitive skew tool is annoying yes, but I always navigate with the mouse, and not the arrows.
I like the beta sdk, almost entirely for the built in model viewer.

The old model viewer was annoying. It feels like something that
was haphazardly thrown together at the last minute before Hammer was
released.
It's a step in the right direction. And for some reason, I hardly
ever use the skew tool. Maybe I should use it more in the future.

I've been using it a lot trying to tweak cliff faces, but it's not
really working out well. I'm looking forward to Finger's cliff
tutorial.

Even with the barrel upright, I cannot be completed protected from incoming fire. Rolling it on the side exposes your entire head, which can get you killed fast.

Physics props are a valuable addition to CS:Source, if only for the fact that they increase the danger radius of the bomb. I know someone whos been killed by flying barrels after the bomb went off.

I don't know about that. When the bomb goes off, I could be a mile away and still suffer damage or die. You don't need flying barrles for that.
