For those who seem to disagree with my opinion, let me explain.

I can remember and mourn many people that I did not know that died many years ago that I don't know the names of or anything about them, or I can remember the man whose music I listen to every day, and who wanted peace over war.

I vote peace and someone I know.

And I, can wish that you knew that you now have the right to do so because of them, too.

Its sad when people with this right, fail to realize it.

John Lennon was assasinated outside of his apartment. To me, this is way more important than Pearl Harbor.

ok, so one dead musician that you didn't know, is more important than lots of dead servicemen/women/civilians that you also didn't know, even though they died to make the world safe for both you and that very musician to exist.

? quote:
My school had a moment of silent reflection for him, nothing about Pearl Harbor.

a sad reflection on the political correctness that pervades our society.

? quote:

you vote peace? now there's a thought. it would have been good it the allies and the axis powers had just had a referendum, instead of fighting a world war over whatever their silly squabble was about.

it also makes me wonder why people take the idea of voting so much for granted now. i bet it was some musician that got everybody to think like that. probably used some weird subliminal jiggery-pokery in his songs.

? quote:
I can't really say how Pearl Harbor's affected me directly , but yeah, definitely sad about Mr. Lennon.

? quote:
The whole point of this was that I'd rather remember John Lennon, the Beatles and Jim Morrisson over a war.

You people make me sick.

Again, you make me sick. f**k you. This is the most disgusting thread I've seen on the Snarkpit.

? quote:
who wanted peace over war

What do you think the people who fought the god damn war wanted?

? quote:
people that I did not know that died many years ago that I don't know the names of or anything about them

Does that give you an excuse to forget them? Those people deserve nothing less than the utmost respect. They fought and died so YOU can have freedom. I guess this is what youth in this new world has degenerated to.

I know that I'm posting right after a quote orgy, but I just wanted to point out that Pearl Harbour was one of the reasons the US joined the war and thusly influencing many european countries, including my own (as in we were bombed by them). It influenced me, although i'm an ocean and half a continent away. That's how I see it at least.
And I for one have the utmost respect for all soldiers who fought in the war, irrelevant of the flag they fought under.

Andrei, I never knew that Romania was involved that much in the war. OR that we bombed you guys... I figured you were our allies.

Erm no we were initially on the German side but after the 23 of August 1944 we were convinced to switch to the soviet side. I think a huge tank invasion accompanied by non-stop artillery and airstrikes was a sufficiently convincing negotiation tactic.
To make a long story short, our men were dragged to Stalingrad and back and then all the way to Berlin only to return home and discover that they would be condemned to 50 years of darkness. And in the end we had as much casualties as the US and the UK combined.

aye, maybe if he was around 20 odd years earlier, his lovely peace songs would have convinced the world not to go to war.

I'm sure a sappy peace song would have convinced Hitler not to invade Poland.

I hate to break this to you but I was alive when Lennon was and he did not make any Earth shattering contributions to much. People tend to become larger than life after they are dead. Lennon was about the most popular of the foursome but hardly a Martin Luther king or Gandhi, both of which did rather well while they were still alive AND both were into peace. If you are going to chose a hero, why not them instead.

im curious toasty, where are you getting your info on lennon from....i too was alive then....and as i said, his biggest contribution was making the drug culture more popular in the states...personally, im not sure that would be a pride instilling point on a resume....he did however, write many a song that became synonymous with the peace movement, and that is probably his most respectable contribution.....look, my wife and i were on our honeymoon 3 days when he died, and i couldnt get her to stop crying for three more....it effected me deeply on a musical and spiritual level, from anger to tears to light depression....but....i must call them as i see them, and know them to be....

calmly bud....i really am curious.
