I can't. Seriously, what the hell did he do that advanced mankind so much?
* looks at a newspaper...
Yep, still war famine and death.

In all fairness, these things still exist after both King and Gandhi died too.

I don't think one man can change the outlook of people in the world- we aren't that nice a race of creature. As the Terminator once said, its in human nature to destroy ourselves.

Ok, so heres where I join in the heated debate to add some fire!

It doenst have to be what a person does, it can be what a person chooses not to do that can affect the world to.

Yes the war was horrible, we shouldnt forget what those young men and women died for, but that doenst mean we cannot remember somebody who also tried to make a difference. Just because john, or whoever else you want to remember didnt go to war doesnt make them any less respectable.

You must remember, I'm canadian. In Canada, Pearl Harbour is not that big of a deal to us. We've already had our rememberance day. We have our moment of silence and wear our poppys to remember our own troops. As an American, you have to also remember that different countries have different days and times that are big historic days. We do not celebrate George Washington day, or any other american holidays, just as you do not do anything for our canadian holidays. Pearl Harbour was a tragic event, I'm not denying it, but it doesnt mean that the world must stop for the americans. You would be a very minority of americans if you stopped whenever somewhereelse in the world had a tragic event that happened on that day.

Its just the reality of the world.

Do you not even realize that the Pearl part of the discussion isn't the important part that people are missing on?

Yes, we discussed it but no one ever said "Hey we're Americans, bow to our ideals"

The problem is that the "Ideal" or intent of the topic is that you need to remember. Remember the original content was "Ponder" That means to contemplate the idea or subject matter which in this case was tributes to those who died.

It doesn't have to be just December the 7th.

Just once I would like a topic to stay just true enough so that the feeling isn't lost to something totally unrelated. There was no call to even mention the "American Elite"

I can almost assure you that had you posed your memorial date that most, if not all the Americans who would bother commenting would have only said something respectful. Yeah, we have a few pricks too but fortunately, they aren't as numerous as the other countries are to us when one of us posts something memorable.

Next time you have a Canadian memorial date post it. I will be first in line to say, "My sorrow to you and yours for your losses"
