Okay, a new law thing is starting to ban guitar tabs and even lyrics from being posted on the internet. I can't find the article at this second, but this just drives me nuts. Already my two biggest sources Taborama and MXTabs are screwed over by this.

I'm ANGRY!

Ahh, here's the article; clicky.

Excerpt: "The music industry is to extend its copyright war by taking legal action against websites offering unlicensed song scores and lyrics.

The Music Publishers' Association (MPA), which represents US sheet music companies, will launch its first campaign against such sites in 2006.

MPA president Lauren Keiser said he wanted site owners to be jailed.

He said unlicensed guitar tabs and song scores were widely available on the internet but were "completely illegal".

Mr Keiser said he did not just want to shut websites and impose fines, saying if authorities can "throw in some jail time I think we'll be a little more effective"."

Find me thier home addresses and I'll make sure they get an explosive christmas.... mwahahahahahahahha!

Seriously, such stupid ideas- they'll cripple the music business by doing this I hope they know!

Another serious note, I can imagine him getting killed over this- its a huge issue and I don't think he knows who hes messing with.

You could almost believe that is an onion article. Bloody pathetic

The onion is a satirical online magazine type thing, for those who haven't heard of it.

They are just trying to get money off of everyone.

I wish I could get everyone to not buy CD's for a year.

...or they're sitting back in their chairs gloating over having found another way to rake in money by making people buy the music.

The thing that I do'nt understand, is that these are interpreted by the writer. It's not like they're taken from an official songbook.

and copylaw says they have to put their own name on it ....you only have to change one note to make it different, thereby an "original" composition....therein lies a problem....you know whos it is, they know whos it is, they know that YOU know whos it is.....whats the right thing to do? as a musician, i understand the want of getting props, and cash for you work, but its way past out of control at this point. personaly, i think the music industry just needs to let this one ride, and cover their asses in the future....hell, they have data in the cd's to guard copyrights, watermarks, etc etc...its doable. why not. live and learn. hell, beethoven has been getting ripped off for years....

something else to consider, any self respecting musician that wants to can tab out a song on tab or staff, if he wants to bad enough....***pssst...if ya know what yer doing, you can use a prog like goldwave or soundforge to make it that much easier....they wont do it for you, but they will tell you whats what...

in short, i guess im torn, but toasty, never fear, they will find a better wya yet to step on their collective dicks.. bank on it bud

<img src=" SRC="images/smiles/rofl.gif"> touche''' ......perfect examples, mr. morphine....i could name you thousands more, as could anyone else.

there has to be a compromise somewhere here. music used to be about the love of it. i spoke up once, and pretty much have been excommunicated from the scene locally, with exceptions. do you know, or fyi, they actually tried to institute a fee for playing cover tunes in this bible belt f**kin berg a few years back of 50 dollars per song?.....almost passed too.....***shivers ....it would run the entertainment scene out instantly ***poof***

You can still download the music itself from the internet, and theyve been trying to stop that for much longer. I wouldnt worry about this.

The commercial use of lyrics is already illegal, so why this law? I can't see how musicians can lose money because little Timmy from Someotherplace, Utah looked up the name of a song based on it's lyrics. On the contrary, I think such sites are actually helping musicians sell/advertise their songs.

What next? Having people who hear music involuntarily from a passing car arrested because they didn't pay any royalties to the author <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/evilgrin.gif"> ?

Not all musicians can do that though. Tablature helps the less experienced guitarists- If in no other way than by just giving them the library of things to play so they will actually play guitar.

This is the most retarded thing I have heard in a while. It's gotten me in a bad mood, thanks RIAA.
