So everyone else says steam gives them trouble with the new update, and discusion comes about. I mention my problem, and I get sarcasm?

Steam hasn't given me a problem since the early days -- this is the first problem I've had, with this new update, in which I've actually been barred from Steam.

And their "Find Answers" wasn't any help either.

Bah: Turns out I left hammer running during the update process. So sue me.

I bet you solved that problem only to be hit by the next one, right? <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/sad.gif">

I hate how "busy" their servers are. It's odd that I can download a demo but not HL2 content. ChkDsk ran without my permission again and moved pretty much all my game files, corrupting some. So, I had to do a refresh in steam ... didn't work, just kept saying it had to download the data again ... in an infinite loop ... now the servers are too busy to let me download anything ... *sigh*

im getting a vrad error which seems to kill windows xp, as it comes up as an odd one. it goes all the way thru compile, and then stops here...

and then it poops out theis one....

rather aggrivating after a 5 hour compile......***me reaches for valve oriented bazooka....

Doc B...

i had the exact same error on my map... FinalLightFace crashing at 4. I said f*ck it and rolled back to the old hammer. which requires getting the files out of the .gcf file. after a rework on the previous version of the .vmf the problem was fixed. dunno if it would have worked in the beta but i couldnt be bothered

Since the most recent update, I cant run Hammer. It gives an error saying "Extra App ID set to 211, but no SteamAppID".

I am getting exactly the same, since the newest update. im just going to wait untill valve sort it out. they usualy do (sometime or another)

/me goes back to mapping with Hammer 3.5

It's a pitty someone doesn't attempt to make a version of Hammer that doesn't have to be rigged up to ST3AM in order to run. In the case of the Source SDK -- if one thing blows, everything goes down...

With the next update, Valve should really make an option so that we can run Hammer without receiving automatic Steam updates.

It's not like anyone is going to pirate the editor. After all, it is already free software.

Of all people, they should understand and appreciate the mapping community. We are the ones who sustain the popularity of their games.

Just deselect the "keep updated" option for the SDK. It shouldn't update. The only thing, I think, you can't keep unupdated is the steam platform, everything else you can turn off.

I think if you check that, it doesnt automatically update, but it forces an update if you try to run it and there has been an update.

I tried selecting the "don't keep up to date" thing, but it would revert whenever a new update came out. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/sad.gif">

So, effectively, it's a not-update-unless-there-is-an-update function?

Meh...

Updating to the beta sdk fixed it for me, but now i'm prone to the bugs all beta software is obligated to have. Better than nothing, I guess. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif">

I didn't see any new update. I just checked the Steam News, and there's nothing since Dec. 22nd.

All the Valve employees are spending Christmas with their families right now. No one except us hardcore mappers are online discussing mapping on Christmas day.

I read this at the Steam forum... <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">
