if i may take ya's on a short trip....

ive been a drafter for mm...20+ years. the last mm...15 have been devoted in part to cad, autocad to be specific, and it has served me well....about the time i was going through a phase of bore-dome (a classic yet symptemtic condition somewhere between boredom and burnout) and was contemplating hari cari to change my outlook....when the dooms hit, and then HL came on the scene. merely by happenstance did i play it, as i wasnt a huge gamer, but i instantly fell for the graphics end of it, partly because the editor was a very close copy of the basic autocad layout. ease of use, and good intuition (we are after all, talking about a game editor...<img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif"> ) and dxf files....woo weee....ive found a new and inspirational outlet, with near instant gratification....sweet! a creative outlet that i could actually use as a work tool as well....and then to have a place like the pit, dedicated to advancement of the cause. pppfffttt...i could work all night, and did, many times.....

fun fun fun, and i actually enjoyed work again....

enter Source....

where did the dxf's go, btw?

they removed the simplistic style. to me, that was half the fun of mapping. making something out of completely nothing. learning to work within constraints. etc etc.....

very powerful engine it is...and it is, imho, obviously more condusive to complete modding than simple level design. i dont think theyve even scratched the surface yet. itll be a kickass setup once the limits are truly tested by the creative and taleted few who endure....but the dedication factor vs time, energy, and the simple "will to live" on your own personal level, will determine whether you want to continue or not.

its not a bad thing to advance....not by any means...be all you can be. just dont forget yer roots.. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_wink.gif">

//end rant

Doc, couldn't you still import dxf's into hammer3.5, and save them as .map or .rmf, and then open them in source?

Models I'd like to see inside maps. Everyday, overlooked items.

  • Fire Hydrant
  • Phone booth
  • Broken section's IE..roofs, walls, rubble.
  • Mobile homes/campers
  • Auto parts IE.. engine blocks and transmissions.
  • Ash tray's and Cigarette machines
  • Port-a-loo's/Port-a-potties
  • School Desk's

The list goes on and on. In theory, we can make anything, why don't we?

This is a small detail, but they modelled a fire hydrant for cs_assault.

You could never import dxf, only export it.
