Anime, perhaps is mistaken as something more than Japanese Animation ...

As far as I know, it's a drawing style that appeared in Japan, not a reference to Japanese cartoons (especially since the Japanese are no longer the only ones making cartoons with that particular "look").

I need to make further inquiries before I unload what ammo is still left in my sh*t cannon, though.

not anymore, I'd say. Since, most people would consider Otomo stuff anime when he doesn't follow any of the character design "standards" you speak of. Same thing goes with Miyazaki and Tezuka. They all have non-anime standards based on your definition, even though all their works are probably the most influential. So, I'd consider Anime = Japanese Produced Animation. (Things that are only animated in japan, Batman Beyond, are not really considered as such though.)

Stuff like this is really why I don't consider it as a seperate genre anymore. It's just too much work to look at it as anything other than another medium.

Bashing? an entire genre?

How did you define a whole genre with one movie example? If I had to pick someone who used an example to exemplify an entire genre, it would be you using Steamboy.

Yeah, it was an alright movie, but remember, I am the old person who still cannot differentiate between cartoons and anime. To me, if its drawn, its a cartoon.

Yeah, I admit thats a crude definition, but no more significant than using Steamboy to illustrate an entire type of movie.

On the whole, I feel anime sucks ass. On the whole I feel Scifi is great but there are exceptions. Same holds true for anime. I liked Princess Mononoke oodles and gobs, but I wouldn't say it was on par with a real movie with real people in it.

Another great example is Dark Waters. Loved the series.

I would say that there must be 100's, if not 1,000's of anime and I like prolly less than .001 percent. so, anime sucks ass.

*MUST* Be fansubbed. well, i'll watch professional. that's no problem, but i would probably prefer fansubbed. The translation usually comes out more acurate. Never ewatch dubed.. *shiver* so bad most of the time. But there are those rare good VA's in dubbed anime.

My current favorites right now is Full Metal Alchemist, Samuri Champloo, and Ghost in the Shell: The Stand Alone Complex Sec Gig (yes thats the entire name of the second season.) otherwise known as GitS:TSACSG

I have also noticed how the genre has now opened up beyound the borders of Japan. I actually prefere anime as two genres; a form or intricate storytelling with plots, subplots, and super-subplots; and the classic drawing style which emphasizes supreme emotional expression.

There would also be a third genre, simple meaning any animation made in Japan.

You know, I've actually got nothing to say

Differences between Cartoon , and Anime. Cartoon are quickly drawn with many implied lines to quickly convey a thought feeling emotion idea or action. An anime is more detailed , so that it takes longer to draw but is more accurately described, but still it's a fast way to get across an idea , concept , emotion , or action. Personally i'd rather watch a clean anime that i pick from, over that smutty crap that people call tv... *ratings are WAY harder on movies than they are on television... I dun think i would let my kid see a "tv-14" at the age of 16.. Especially with these shows like jerry springer O____O... man it's creepy..

Imho :P.

Fansubbed torrents for sure. They never seem get the particular little things about the characters voices in dubbed anime's. IMHO anime movies are nothing compared to series because they can't build up the intricate stories. So far I've watched all of Full Metal Alchemist, Hellsing, Trigun and Naruto, right up until when the story turned to sh*t when they decided to make up stupid sh*tty filler stories and not just stick to the manga and have breaks until new manga is released. Right now I'm watching Bleach and am about to watch the movie Jin Roh today. If you like anime go download Bleach it's an excellent series but be warned won't be that great until around ep 20. Currently trying to get my hands on Witch Hunter Robin.

If your English, then Neon Genesis Evangelion is crap in Japanese- so much feeling in the speech and the action, you just miss everything about it when its in Japanese. Plus in English they have famous voice actors :P

Like with that other crazy Anime about that bloke with those hot female aliens who look like humans who have wierd powers. Can't remember the name, but that has some really famous people doing voice overs.
