Most important question of all:
Why are some people ass holes?

Well, you'll never get an answer that makes sense until you find a universally accepted definition of the word. Sadly, one of the things I dislike the MOST about the internet is its lack of universalness.

Diversity is all well and good, but when I say blue, I do not want "Blue on an April summer day" vs "Blue of a nice Mitsubishi"

Anyway, define asshole, then ask why.

Personally, I find asshole to be a rather mild derogatory comment. If I were to pick my all time worse cuss word I have ever heard, or used it would be "Screwed"

As far as I know, everyone knows the defintion of an asshole.

All time worse cuss word = screwed? That's way milder than asshole <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

c**t is pretty bad. Or douchebag, that's another bad one.

I'm with AtM here; I use screwed on a daily basis probably, and to be honest I don't even consider it a cuss word. I don't really know the context in which you mean it though, as if you say "you're screwed" it is merely discribing circumstances and wouldn't be considered swearing by many, whereas "screw you" isn't the exact word you were saying so I'm not sure if it is what you meant.

I personally also despise the word douchebag; not because I find it insulting, but because I just find it to be a s**te word.

Its all in how you look at it I reckon.

I do not even bat an eye whenever someone calls me an asshole because in order to know for sure, they would have to know me intimately and no one but my wife would know me that well.

Screwed on the other hand. You do not have to know them at all to screw someone badly. When someone says "Your screwed".. It hits you much harder.

Your other two examples are children's names. I do not know many adults who say either TBH.. When we were in school however, both were fairly common.

I recently learned that a lady I work with had a boob job.

Also, while looking for a suitably unhelpful smartass answer for Orpheus, fingernails are generated by the Lunula... also that thumb nails grow faster than fingernails.

[edit: I obviously got the ass part of being a smartass, given that this belongs in Recently Learned.]

Speaking of which. I heard the best smartass comment I have ever heard today on the FM radio. I am not sure of its exact origin, but I think its from "King of the hill"

"Every time I think I have heard the dumbest thing ever, one of you starts talking again"

You wouldn't believe exactly how often I think something similar when I read some of these replies. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_lol.gif">

? quoting Baron von Snickers
Can animals like dogs and cats "see" what's on a television when they look at it? Or is their brain and sense of sight so different that they can't make sense of it?

I believe Animals sense of spacial awareness hasn't adapted like ours to accept TV's as being 3D entertainment. They just see it as 2D, which is far less interesting to them. I do however have a cat that you can quite happily sit on its back on the sofa and it will watch TV, depending on whats on.

Also aren't interested in mirrors either- down to smell and other senses not recieving signals, I'm sure they just aren't interested/fussed in the slightest.

On a related note, I wonder what runs through a dogs head as it sits in a car and stares out the window excitedly.

Doggies are actually picking up all the new smells that are rammed into thier nose like a supercharger. Dogs love smells.

Because they're insecure about the thought that terrorists could invade them on a whim, so they find security in thinking that their government was responsible.

so you all believe that the passengers were heroes and that the F16s close-by had nothing to do with it. ok. i'm just saying it's plausible, given they knew the white house was under threat and that Cheney later reported to the news that they gave authorization.

Either way it would have crashed and everyone on board would have probably died.

Why don't people begin to attack Western governments on their demonstrated policies as opposed to conspiracy theory? Theres a whole lot more ammunition in what they see fit to tell us than you would dare to realise.

Prepare to be derailed.

This has been bugging me for ages.
Sight seems to have a weird "static"-like effect in the background. This is particularly noticeable when you're sitting in a very dark room or when you close your eyes. Sometimes when you keep your eyes shut for more than a few minutes you can see colored sparks, like fireworks on the back of your eye-lids, that I think are neural discharges. Anyone else noticed these and the before mentioned static?

I know, I always try to form shapes of the colored stuff when I close my eyes like that. If you consentrate hard enough you can do it.

Mine is concentric rings of color that collapse into eachother. Purple and Lime green. Trippy.... I think it's just the eye's way of keeping from going blind. If you see absolutely NOTHING, i think you go blind.

Okay, nest question.

You know in a 3-ring binder, how you push those two flaps down and the rings open...

How the hell does that work?
