sick program, there are all kinds of maps and stuff you can overlay on the earth. I was just looking at lighting strike data over the whole world.

Yep. It's a good program. However. Google Earth blasts it out of the water with better controls, smoother movement, higher resolution content (close up), and faster texture loading <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif"> http://earth.google.com . The only advantage I have found that World Wind has over Google Earth is it has higher resolutions when you are further away......so if you just want to look at a state or country and not zoom in, get World Wind.....if you want to zoom in and check out your house, get Google Earth. But even if you still want to just see a country, I would still suggest Google Earth, the controls on World Wind piss me off.

Yes but google earth's satellite image is over a year old, at least according to my house which I looked up.

It is to my belief that World Wind and Earth pull from the same DB. Even if I'm wrong (I have been before), I would still rather see a crisp image from last year then a blurry blotch of colors from yesterday. The below images are taken from roughly the same angle at roughly the same distance from the ground. You can decide which program you want.

Orph, google earth runs fairly well on dial-up. It's not good for browsing the world at random but good enough for locating places or roads if you have the time. Try it before you make up your mind.

Google Earth is awesome. You guys need to check out New York City (it has the actual buildings) and then the Grand Canyon. Two pretty cool locations.

I always used google earth to look up Cities that people tell me they are from. I like seeing what the surrounding land looks like. for a better idea of what kind of life they live.


I tried sniffing coke, but the ice cubes kept getting stuck in my nose.

earth seems to be mush better for looking around, but I'm really wowed by all the layers you can put on nasa's program. They have thermal images, crop growth, weather, current hi-res pictures of disasters, etc, etc.

it seems more like a reserch tool.

The area around my house is actually pretty blurry. Some sections of the world don't have the same crisp detail as others, but I don't mind... Google Earth still kicks ass.

I guarantee my area of the world is the suckiest... Go for "peace valley, MO" You can't even see any roads...

But i still love Google earth as a stalking tool. lol. Nah, it's grat to see how roads ACTUALLY curve, when you didn't even realize they did when u were driving on them...

No, I think that my area is REALLY nice, i was talking about the picture quality on Google Earth. THAT is horrible.

THIS is the border of the area I live in. google earth hates me... Not to mention that the photos of my area are from before 1995.

Nickelplate, try going to Plymouth UK to see where I live roughly. I live up and right about 1km from the city centre (the long strip of pedestrianized road.
