EVER WANTED TO HELP BRING THE DEAD BACK TO LIFE?
Well now you can! With the launch of Half-Life: Resurrection you will be able to participate in resurrecting cancelled half-life mods.
Half-Life Resurrection is a team project that aims to finish cancelled Half-Life 1 mods. This is done with the permission of the original mod creators.
In many ways this will be harder than starting a completely new mod. Team members will have to understand that if they work on a partially completed map they must finish it with as few changes as possible. Our task is to finish the mod and keep it as original as possible.
The project is looking for dedicated and talented members of various skills and experience. We would like the team to consist of many nationalities to reflect the international community of Half-Life. The only language requirement is to be able to read and write a basic level of English.
The Project has already managed to sign-up to two mods, with another couple in discussion.
We hope you find Half-Life Resurrection interesting and will consider joining the team. If you have any questions please either visit the website.
The website goes live 5:00pm GMT 1st March 2006 and includes exact team positions' available, details of the projects, a brief introduction in four languages (with more on the way!) and a forum.

Intriguing concept, but I can't help but feel the mods may lose something without the original idea holder on team. That is if the mod even gets resurrected - not to doubt you or your team's abilities, but it can't be as motivating to work on mods you didn't come up with and help sculpt yourselves. Best of luck anyway though

i suppose there are some mods that were abandoned because the creators didn't have enough time, or they fell out with each other, or some other reason that wasn't directly related to whether or not the mod/idea sucked. i couldn't guess at the numbers, but i'd imagine that such mods would be in a small minority. good luck finding and completing them.

I'm semi-interested in seeing which mods they decide to bring back.
In 19 hours I'll get my chance.

"I'm semi-interested in seeing which mods they decide to bring back."
To find out which mods have signed up just look in the bottom lefthand corner of the images to see the names.
"how do you plan to keep people working on projects that failed?"
Was it the project that failed or the people? DIfferent people different result.
Of course that said it won't be easy, but is anything that's worth doing?

I was thinking something similarly myself Duncan. I have always considered sex worthwhile, but its never brought tears to my eyes. Now pissing, thats brought tears to my eyes on several occasions. So, I reckon sex is second only to a really good pee.

The response to Half-Life Resurrection has been quite poor. Lots of people have said "Hey, great idea" but few have voluntered to work. I have had a few applications from a variey of skill specialists but the main problem I have is that the project desperately needs a Technical Team Leader because without one it is immpossisble to allocate and organise the work for the specialists.
The role of the TTL can be a consultative one, suitable for somebody with plenty of experience and knowledge but maybe short on time. If you are that person or know somebody suitable please email, IM or PM me.
These mods have waited quite a few years and another few months won't make much difference. I'm going to perserve and perhaps become the biggest pain-in-the-butt the HL1 mapping community has seen. I'm hoping to have a brand new trailer made and that may generate some extra pubilicity.

I think you need to keep "Ressurection" in the background, and promote this as "hey we are working on XXXX mod!"
In a way I think it's a very interesting and neat project. I have finished several maps for other people, actually. I go mad seeing a potentially interesting map fall by the wayside. And, tbh, I'm better at the tweaking and polishing than I am at coming up with layouts and whatnot.
I'm not that interested in 1-player projects tbh... the effort you spend, just to make one area a player will spend 5 minutes in, is rather discouraging to me. If you work on any multiplayer stuff, and would like some help polishing up or porting maps let me know, though, that's something I am very good at.

Jinx, Thanks for the offer but I can say now without any doubt or hesitation that we won't be working on any MP mods. I do take your point about the work that goes into make SP mods can often seem like a waste of time since the players spend a few minutes in each section.

I think this is a very nice idea. There are so many nice SP and MP mods that are abandoned and forgotten about. Some of them can be really fun to play!
" SRC="images/smiles/sad.gif">
It's sometimes can be really annoying! I joined a nice little opposing force mod. They wanted me to make a puzzle map. I started making it then I discovered that mod is gone. It seemed so stable and the leader wasn't new to mapping and mod running. It's such a shame, I had such a nice idea...
As to working with you... I'm quite busy at the moment but when I'll finish all my past obligations I'll join.(If this project will still be alive)
I don't have much to do- finishing EY_TOXIC, a tutorial and a map from 2 map minimod. That map is also almost finished, I only got one room left, but it's the main one and it got lots of entity work in it.

This whole project looks like quite an ambitious idea. I think I never heard about something similar so it could work. Can't wait how this will turn out. I'm sorry but I can't volunteer.
