The new Australian tourism advertisement has been recently launched; the use of the word bloody is getting some mixed reactions - mainly good ? although the ad has now been banned from TV in the UK because the word bloody is too offensive (Heard that on the news just as I am typing this).
What do you think of the word bloody being used in a tourism ad, would it discourage you from visiting, make you want to come even more or not change your view at all? (Or something else entirely?).

You can have a look at the ad at http://www.wherethebloodyhellareyou.com/.

I personally don?t have a problem with the ad, but maybe I?m biased image.

I don't think there is anything about it whatsoever, but those damn censors... The advert wasn't anything amazing but it was fine for its purpose, and the word bloody was obviously a gimmick to give it a bit of personality. I think it worked ok, and it being present (and therefore giving the advert a bit of personality) would make me more likely to be interested than if it was not present (and therefore making the advert a completely generic tourist advert).

Maybe places are banning it just because you guys ban some of our stuff :P

How can they ban that when they let Triple J broadcast the "happier than a pig in s**t" advert ALL the time!?

Crazy Aussies, I tell ye..

The only people complaining are the Brits, and thats just because they didn't think of it first <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">.

I really don't find that offensive. "Where the bloody hell are you?!" ? Much more elegant than "Where the f**k are you?!, don't you think?

Censoring such words is silly if you ask me. I agree, you can't broadcast certain words, but censoring "bloody" and "damn" is stupid. We all know these words, including the "innocent" children they're trying to "protect". Turning them into candy-asses who start crying each time they hear someone use a mild swear-word isn't exactly my idea of helping IMHO. Children need to get used to these words because they'll be hearing them for the rest of their lives. The problem is where to draw the line.

When I'll have kids, I'm going to teach them every insult romanian and english have to offer and, more importantly, RESPONSIBILITY for their own actions. I think it's better to teach your kids how to be responsible when using insults/alcohol/cigars rather than making them oblivious to something so wide-spread.

As an American, I'm not too familiar with the word "bloody." Obviously I've heard it before, and I know the gist of it, but as far as curses go, what is it on par with? Damn, or s**t, or f**k etc?

Damn is probably its nearest relative. It is commonly used in the context of "bloody hell!", which is much the same as saying "god damn it!". You might also say "Bloody Australians!", in the same way as you would say "Damn Australians!" :P

bloody is pretty much an all purpose expressive negative adjective and i find it to be quite a fun and expressive one

it doesn't really match up with any specific american words but can replace almost any one of our words

btw i don't see what's wrong with that commercial at all, generally i have seen more and more commercials using curse words

It's a lot bloody better than that Paris Hilton hamburger commercial.

I remember watching the movie "Hope and Glory", and a bunch of kids are taunting this guy to utter the word "bloody". I was thinking, "what's bloody wrong with that word?"

ok, admittedly, i've only just watched the advert - and i think there is NO cause for complaint considering the chick asking "where the bloody hell are you"

lets all go to australia to meet her, TBH.

I think Americans should be banned from saying the word bloody as a curse, but only because it just sounds weird with their accent.

I agree -- I just wouldn't feel right uttering any British slang.

it's funny that you say that because most of us wouldn't think of ourselves as having an accent, of course it would depend on what region of america

yet, i have to agree because it just doesn't feel right when i say it, it doesn't come at all naturally
