NO! I tried it when i was like 10 yrs old and I looked like an idiot THEN when i was yelling at a pair of headphones, because "you have to be really loud to make it work."

I tried sniffing coke, but the ice cubes kept getting stuck in my nose.

ofcourse it works, you apply the same principle but in reverse order. mic: sound>membrane>electric pulses. headphones: electric pulses>membrane>sound. no reason why you coudnt reverse it.

When I moved to Dundee some locals thought I was English, as where I'm from we don't have a strong Scottish accent.

? quoting Nickelplate

Maybe we ought to use an intro sentence "Hello my name is _____ I am from _____." then we can have another sentnce that uses lots of sounds.

I was thinking along the same lines:

"Hello, my name is (put in as much name as you feel comfortable saying). My home is, (put in as much origin as you feel comfortable saying). I am (age) years old. I began mapping with (which editor) on or about (date). After learning the basics I moved on to (any other editors). I discovered Snarkpit (approximate date) and liked it so much I decided to stay. My other hobbies include (post anything that catches your fancy). I have (wife, children, siblings)

Anyway, this is how I envisioned it. Something like a "Verbal Profile"

Opinions????

DISCLAIMER: PLEASE,PLEASE,PLEASE TRY TO KEEP YOUR ZIPS TO ONE MEG OR LESS. I discovered very quickly that MP3 is much smaller than wave files. Thanx for cooperating.

After almost 6 attempts I discovered that it is very difficult to record a satisfactory rendition of my voice. I did finally succeed, but I discovered that I do not like my voice very much in recording. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif">

However, This recording is acceptable to me. It more/less sounds like myself. The only thing is, the hesitancy of my speech. Recording what I wrote was more difficult than I imagined it would be because the graphs were distracting me. I watched them bounce and bob to my voice. I suggest you do not watch the monitor if you want to succeed in less than 6 tries. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif">

This is what I said:

Hello, my name is Jon Edward Rickenbacker Jr. My home is, Van Buren, A rural community in Arkansas I am 43 years old. I began mapping with the Build Editor on or about 1997. The editor was for the Duke Nukem 3d game. I made about 1/2 a dozen Deathmatch maps and played them with my old Packard Bell sx33 pc and a 14.4 modem. After learning the basics I moved on to Half-Life and WorldCraft 2.1. and eventually made and released 9 maps. I discovered Snarkpit in its infancy. The site was still all white with blue trim and did mostly reviews for the game. I liked it so much I decided to stay. My other hobbies include Mostly reading and playing games with my grandson Devon. My wife Brenda and I have been married almost 25 years and together we have two sons Jon III and Jarrod.

I know whatcha mean. I listened with my back to the PC and said "Sounds like me, but broken somehow"

It really is hard. I await your more "perfect" version Doc.

I am betting that we have more "scraped versions" than any mapping competition.

I'm from Texas bud. Not the south. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_wink.gif">

Since we never truly decided on what format, methinks anything that will motivate will suffice.

I only posted what I said to give an idea of what to do. Not as a guideline of what HAS to be done.

As long as its something you are satisfied with.

If I sound like a dweeb, so be it. Doc has talked to me on the phone and Tracer Bullet has seen me in person. They know how I sound.

Alrighty then, since the other sounded to rehearsed for'ya Doc, I opted to put a second recording up for grabs.

I figure betwixt the two, one could ascertain mostly what yours truly sounds like.

Less rehearsed version.

Guys, just have fun will'ya.

Orpheus do you want to make a new thread for this (so its searchable later) or shall we all just post our recordings in here?

And, regarding your mp3s, I liked the content of the first, and the naturalness of the second <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

Just had a thought: why don't we voice-out our replies to this thread rather than introducing ourselves? [edit]

Ok, after much sweat blood and tears shed, I managed to make a recording of myself using my MP3 player. It's a short introduction, like Orpheus' initial recording, read with the same passion as a suicidal weatherman when telling people how soggy it will be in Blackpoole. The recording is extremely low quality, and it distorts my voice.

I dunno if making another thread would solve a search inquiry later or not. So, I guess we need a consensus vote. *shrugs*

And, I used my sound tutorial to make my recording... WhooRa. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif">

I don't think starting a new thread is necessary. Why not just make a list with the voices as part of a reply, like the birthday list over at the recently birthdayed thread?

Seconded.

I also wish the persons who said yes, would post their links.

[EDIT] Andy, I had to use my ViPlay program to listen to your recording. Not hard for me, but confusing as hell.

It was clear enough, but the strong accent made it very enjoyable.

I would suggest a more conventional recording or some people might not be able to listen to you.

/2 cents.

[edit2] Real player, and media player seem to handle it just fine. forget my previous post.
