? quoting Adam Hawkins
I just use my name - got fed up of using handles a long time ago as people who I worked with would call me by my gaming names instead of my real name.
Sadly, most of the people in my real life are either so stupid, or so not into gaming that they do not hear "Orpheus" when I say it. I show many people Snarkpit. I show them my paltry attempts at mapping and they go wow.. The see my name and say, "Why did you name yourself Orifice?"
*sighs*
You'd be surprised how many people never heard of Orpheus and just assume that I spelled Orifice incorrectly. As if I'd actually call myself such.
I don't know which is more insulting. The fact that they know what an orifice is, or that they think I misspelled it.

Mine was a misspelling of my, old callsine: Star.
I was about 10, and was able to beat the rest of my family in Descent,
so I adopted the name. Later, when making a file for another
game(don't ask me which), at that point I thought it was kind of
retarded, so I typed it in sloppily, and Stadric was the result.
now, surveys and quizzes the internet over know me as Stadric Gonzalez.(Gonzalez isn't my real last name, I just thought it fit)

My name is just a name that some guy called a bad guy in a book I read called OTHERLAND. Cash car Star has read it, it's a great series.
Before that I was Fearless_Flea because Fearless Flea was my name as a skier when I was a little guy.
Before that I was CodGod. A variant of my name BEFORE that which was Codpiece5000. www.dictionary.com for what a codpiece is.
Before that, I actually just had the name "Brad" I've been on the internet a LONG time. I actually had the email Brad@hotmail.com before hotmail was microsoft.

Chrono Trigger was the first RPG I played through all those year ago (~1996 was when I got a hold of it). I have fond memories of it. When I tried to come up with a handle during lans or something ... it'd be a really big pain in the ass, since I'd get the 3rd degree if I just used "Adam" or something, so I used Crono, the name of the main character from that beloved (good) squaresoft game.
Sadly. Others have done the same. So, there are variations like Crono83, or 03, or Chrono03. I think that last one was generated by my banks website, because crono was taken, so I said "sure, whatever".
Nothing fancy.
Hawkins, YES, I hate it when people call me by this internet handle in actual conversation ... like in IMs ... *cough*Morphine*cough*
Oh yeah, when I play ghost recon, I'm "Cpt. Annihilation", guess why.

Ive killed every hardcore boss in the final fantasy games. Including
the FF8's omega weapon at the end of the game, not using the cheapo
method of getting the potions that make you invincible.
I soon moved on to playing all the other FF games, my goal being to kill all the bosses that are considered the "omega weapons".
Soon my friends game me the name "omega slayer" because I knew all
strategies on how to kill them. Kinda lame I know, but it stuck with me.
Then this little game was dropped into my lap: Half Life. Upon beating
the game (took me a week to do it in the summer), I tried my hand at
the deathmatch.
As soon as I hopped in I dominated the server, I would "slay" everyone.
At this time I had the alias ASE (my initials closely resembles ACE).
But then so did about 100 other people.
So I changed it to OmegaSlayer.
Then I discovered hammer, and then I found this little nitche in the
Half Life community, and I choose omegaslayer as the alias I would use.

Ask your Mom where I got my name..
No really, I used to be a dead on shot with a Scout in OLD CS Like 1.3.. and People would yell That was a MoneyShot.. and pretty soon everyone started calling me MoneyShot. I changed it twice since then, but I alwasy seem to go back to it, it just seems to stick, it fits me. ( no pun intended.. ok maybe it was. )
Names I have had in the past..
UNSEEN - BBS days, I thought it was clever.. back then..
PHANTOM - A variation of UNSEEN. Also was a comic hero I read back then.
MICDEES - Nick name from the Army, seems MCDOWELL is too damn hard for people to say.
RUMBLESTEELESKIN - Was a Character I had in a Game called Shadowrun.
Im sure there are others I have put in the recesses of my mind, to live in the shame of darkness I denigh daily. =)

I can use my real name and people won't really notice. With a name like Rainer not everyone believes you

Well, I've carried 2 handles throughout the ages. My first was
sHo0tThEcHiCkEn. That originated at a TFC LAN Party when I was
8. One of the guys was really good, and his name was
Chicken. So we all teamed up on him, and I changed my name to
that. Carried that for ages until I wanted multiple accounts on
some website (can't remember) so I needed something else.
I went with ()))Crayola))_> for a long time after that, not quite
sure where that one came from. But eventually I got bored and
felt the need for a change.
That morning I'd had French Toast (that's the exciting story behind
this name) and I'm a fan of it. Unfortunately, it's been taken
before, so I'll go with French n Toasty or FrenchandToasted.
'Tis aout all.

The very first day I got my first PC, I installed a copy of Klingon Honor Gaurd that I bought at the same time. My Cousin was helping me at first, and when it came time to create a player profile he went to type Jim, and typed Juim by accident. I immediately thought it sounded kind of klingon'ish ( and being the big giant Star Trek nerd I am of course) I said to leave it and it has stuck ever since.

The source of the name Wil5on is something I take to the grave. I got the name in 2003, before I signed up here.
My previous name, TriStar, was from an aircraft, the Lockheed L-1011 Tristar. Why I chose this aircraft, I dont remember, but probably because it had an engine in the tail and thats pretty cool. That name lasted until I realised it was pretty crappy.
I am known to many as simply "wilson". I dont mind being called that IRL, and in some situations actually prefer it over my real name.

I just picked a military rank that sounded short and put my name's first letter at the end.
Only later I found out P can be interpret as something different when pronounced in English... so I guess a new nickname could be usefull some day...

Heh, I don't often think about the meaning of nicks, though sometimes a strange combination gets me thinking. Names that include obscene languange do give me a bad first impression of a person, though. I assume I'm not the only one who thinks so?

Cursing/obscene language and leet speek and certain numbers give me a bad impression. Certain words too. You know you need to stay away from a n00b if their name is something like "Beerdrinker69" or something and they are like 12 yrs old. it's just stupid and they are probably a dumdum. people who use 69, 666, and 999 normally get a bad impression, tohugh 999 not as much. Cussing is just stupid, and leet is just annoying whereas it used to be cool.
AtM: You need to stay away from ninja snipers anyway, especially if they spell sniper "siper"
