Nihon no gameru wa kyouteki hazu da (desuga anime wa kakkoii na).

No, really, these guys are nuts. I can understand wanting to make the models more asian, but ffs this IS a First Person shooter after all.

and the threee tentacle thing is the big green thing that you have to burn with the rocket engine.

[edit] YAS! the "garg" and the "green tentacles". I just couldn't think of the name... thanks weno

Yeah its the Garg and the Tentacles from Blast Pit and Surface Tension.

Anyway -- I don't really see a problem with localizing a game. Artistic Integrity doesn't really come into it because first of all Valve agreed to it, and it's not like the original product is being completely replaced all around the world. If you like the original you can still play it over here. It just makes sense to have a Japanese version of a game for the Japanese -- as the language and culture are so completely different from the western world. I mean, think about the GUI. Japanese read right to left, so wouldn't the HUD need to be changed for their comfort?

I dunno, the whole point of the models and locations in CS is to present that gritty, grimy, eastern european or south american feel.

It's just not the same with Hi Hi puffy ami Yumi gunning down Pokemon.

? quoting Those idiots
The characters are gritty, burly, and not particularly appealing...

rofl lolo Last time I checked, there wasn't anything pretty about warfare

Also, I'd like to mention that this screams "April Fools", since it is the 28th you know :P

In fact, it has to be an April Fool's Joke, because I remember seeing either Japenese (or possibly Chinese) text on the cs 1.5 box, somewhere. This means that they've already seen, and played, the game.

Breaking the laws of mapping since 2003 and doing a damn fine job at it

Oh, and the article is coated in bulls**t. How can anyone say, with a straight face, that the japanese game industry is underdeveloped?

Right, sorry. I couldn't think of what the hell you were talking about.

The sound sensative tenticles would have tiped me off MUCH faster. Man, that part pissed me off the first time I played it. Anyway, I don't know.

Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

I was half right. Traditionally they read right to left, but not anymore.

? quoting wiki

Traditionally, Japanese is written in a format called tategaki. In this format, the characters are written in columns going from top to bottom, with columns ordered from right to left. After reaching the bottom of each column, the reader continues at the top of the column to the left of the current one. This copies the column order of Chinese.

Modern Japanese also uses another writing format, called yokogaki. This writing format is identical to that of European languages such as English, with characters arranged in rows which are read from left to right, with successive rows going downwards.

They definitely read comics and stuff back to front though.

Its not a bulls**t article... well, maybe it is, I haven't read it, but CS:Neo is real. It was developed as an arcade type game a fair while back,or at least I saw a gameplay trailer for it a fair while ago. I think its a fairly legitimate thing to do, given that the original version would have pretty much no appeal to the Japanese audience.

Andrei, are you sure the article wasn't just referring to PC games? The Japanese games industry is far and away dominated by consoles after all.

Yeah, but as ReNo said it's all console games that you've listed. As far as PC games go, the western world is on top.

No, no, no. The whole idea of CS:Neo is a f**king nightmare. If they replaced all the characters in Final Fantasy with the cast of Half-Life and got rid of the whole fantasy setting it would be EVEN GAYER. And it would not be Final Fantasy. That's what bugs me. I don't mind the porting, just the completely different game.
