From my experience and research, they are not physical, or detectable, but more like in the Six Sense, where most people can't see them, they only see them if they need to, because they are a supernatural extension of their own consciousness, in order to either stir up the pond, or set it to rest.
But that's just my theory.
I agree with Nickelplate and Phatstrings on this one, too.
And while we're on the subject of mysterious mysteries...

As I Lay Dying

My personal experiences all stem from a 2 year period in the same house. The occasions, as far as I could tell were not connected in any way, other than ghostly.
When it first started happening, I ignored the signs as mere coincidence. Noises and bumps, that sort of thing. After all, it was an old trailer. We lived in a fairly nice double-wide in Naylor Arkansas.
When it got to be events you couldn't ignore, then.. Well..
I will type them up, in no particular order, as I cannot remember which happened when.
1) and most memorable... After my wife and I got through, doing our married thing, she get up to go to the bathroom. The room is dark, but I can hear her in there easily enough. In a few minutes the bed sags, just as if someone got in with me. I reach over laughing and said "That was fast, how'd you do that so quick in the dark" She hears me from the bathroom but cannot make out what I am saying and says something non-committal like "Huh?"
I reach all the way across the bed to feel.... Nothing, absolutely nothing but the bed moved. Not bounced like it vibrated. It moved as if someone got in, turned around and lay down on the pillows. Needless to say, I screamed like a girls and ran headlong into the other room..
My wife failed to believe.
2) There was a coat closet in the front entry area for you to hang up jackets and whatnot. On many occasions, the closet was emptied into the living room. Sometimes while we were away, and sometimes while we slept. We never heard anything, just came in to the mess.
3) We came home several times to a sink of dirty, but warm pots and pans. No reason, other than someone cooked something while we were gone.
4) There was a pack of dogs that pillaged the neighborhood. The tipped over trash cans, killed calves and chickens, and beat up neighbors tied up dogs that were on chains. No pack ever entered our property the entire time we lived there. Nothing.
After a time, I stopped worrying about if the ghosts were real. I was kinda glad cause other than mischief, nothing bad ever happened.

You can say that after uploading that? ![]()
I have a brother-in-law. If you wore a set of John Lennon glasses, you'd be his twin.
I'll try to locate a pic... maybe I have one.

Why do you think my pic is blurry? As not to cause panic, of course!

So many votes, so few stories.
Even non-believers should have some story to share.

come to think of it orph i do have a story
I work a summer job as a lifeguard at a boyscout camp (it doesn't pay well but the guys there are fun to work with)
some of the guys took a trek down to the lakefront to have a smoke and they saw some weird light hovering over the lake, belief me it was there and they weren't smokin weed just cigarettes+
we were sitting out later that night around a fire probly about one in the morning when we heard some footsteps, like boots, not dear or anything
no-one was out there we checked pretty hardcore, and later night, well morning, we were kinda half asleep when someone(thing) banged on our window sounding suspiciously like a hand, and it was just a screen so that's pretty hard to immitate, plus we all heard it, once again noone there
we believe this to be the prior camp ranger who hung himself on camp and is said to roam around at night sometimes, i now believe this to be true as i was scared s**tless

I was until my.. event.
It was an awakening like none other I can assure you.
I can say, that I haven't "Seen" anything so all my experience is.. essentia.
It was enough to convince me.

i once seen my mate's head turning into the typical depiction of the devil. big horns, pointy chin, burny fires for eyes etc. it scared the s**t out of me. there were some hallucinogenics involved, of course, but that didn't detract from the fear that i felt. probably heightened it. that was over twenty years ago, and i can still get a shiver up my spine from thinking about it.
as for weegie[sp:P] boards, well, demons masquerading as people they've been familiar with, obviously. it's part of a conspiracy to lead people away from the truth.

Umm... Yes that is exactly the goal of all scientific inquiry: testing theories. Since empirical evidence can never be formulated into a proof in the strict sense of the word, all scientists are capable of is disproving things. We discard the provable falsehoods, and take that which remains to be the truth.

Very true, but I was just trying to create a paradox >_>.
