Personally, I use DVDx to rip my DVD's to DivX. (Good guides at www.doom9.org )

I was gonna suggest this site but ForceFlow beat me to it.

I quoted it just in case anyone else wants a second opinion. In fact, I pointed Mazemaster to this site recently for his roadtrip movie. I assume it helped him too.

Anyway, Doom9 is a great reference site.
