Typical viewpoint <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/sad.gif"> Games are just a form of entertainment, equally as valid as books or films or any other. Like everything they should be used in moderation, but the ignorant view that "games are a waste of time" while other forms of entertainment have more worth is disgustingly dismissive and closed minded. I'm so glad my parents are open to it.

Crono -- sure Saturn and Dreamcast had awesome games... but they had very short lifespans compared to the other systems of their generation. I just hated reading EGM and seeing the future release titles for Dreamcast dwindling to nothing... while the PS2 titles kept going strong.

Basically -- I don't want to buy a console that loses the console war and gets pushed out of the market like the Saturn and Dreamcast did.

I preffer the Dreamcast to the Xbox and PS2 and its a real shame that SEGA arnt doing any more consoles, but on the up sade 2 cool games were realeased for the Dreamcast in March granted they only got released in Japan but they're lots of fun.

Oh and Brothers in Arms Hells Highway looks good.

It even happened with the Gamecube this generation - with one or two exceptions, for the past year or two the only notable exclusives have been first-party titles, and the majority of cross platform titles don't make it to the system either. Not as bad a situation as the Dreamcast, but still not great.

Is that because you want to be popular or something? image

The only console (besides the Virtual Boy) Nintendo has put out that really let me down ... or made things not that fun was N64, for me. I thought that system was borderline terrible. It has good games, but they're few and far between. I didn't even want a GameCube because of it. But, I got one anyway (it was actually a gift) and I was pleasently surprised, every title I've boughten has been rather unique and has made for a very fun time (primarly exclusive stuff, of course)

I've ran into a lot of people who simply say those consoles suck ... yet they've never played ANYTHING on ANY of them. They'll say the GCN is a kiddy console, or the Saturn doesn't have ANY good games, or that the PS2 has insanely higher 3d abilities than the Dreamcast, or even that PS2 is the most powerful console outside of 360, all of those statements are pure bulls**t, of course.

I still play my Saturn, Dreamcast, and GameCube to this day. If I'm still playing consoles and games that are 5 to 10 years old ... I'd imagine that's longevity ... I don't know how else to look at it, I guess.

Although, keep in mind, my GameCube was a gift ... my Saturn cost $20, and I bought a Dreamcast when it was dying for $100. I can understand thinking you're going to get burned when you paid $345 or however much the Saturn cost and then it didn't last for even five years. I understand that, but I don't think something like that is going to happen this time around.

Xbox has a large enough fanbase and 360 has already sold enough copies to ensure a healthy life. Nintendo doesn't undersell hardware and really makes profit most of the time, so they're sticking around, the only person that's still a mystery is Sony. I really can't tell if people are going to go for a $600 system or not. Maybe they'll believe the same lies that were told about the PS2? Who knows? Maybe the most amazing game every created will come out for the PS3 a year after its launch and do for it what Final Fantasy VII did for the PSX.

Just wait and see.

Pretty much all I want is a DS, to play some of the awesome games that are out and coming out, a Wii, Crysis, and Gears of War to come out on PC ... that's it. I don't care about Halo or even Fable, I enjoyed fable a lot ... but ... whatever, not that great. I'd even be willing to skip Kojima's final chapter in Metal Gear Solid if the thing has a $660 price tag.

Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Halo 2 may not have been my favorite, but I enjoyed it and that trailer from a raw presentation standpoint gave me chills. I can't wait to see where they take the storyline with this one.

I feel like a terrible person for saying this, but Crysis absolutely bored me. The graphics are stunning, sure, but the gameplay video on the ship was a total yawnfest. I don't have high hopes for it at this point...

Finger, Resistance looks great even if you're not on it. Love the alternate timeline vibe - makes me think of Iron Strom, but cool. I'm assuming you're on the Ratchet title, then? You guys are one of the companies that's going to force me to get a PS3 sometime down the road... The other being Naughty Dog, and I love the Tomb Raider vibe they've got going on that new project and anything platformy they touch has to be gold. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

Warhawk interested me for a while but I think it looks terrible with the new control scheme... the Sony conference video was the worst, the guy was flailing all over the place and the ship was just drunkenly all over the place. Otherwise the only other PS3 exclusive getting me hyped up right now is Assassin's Creed. Sounds pretty impressive.

Nintendo and Microsoft are the winners for me this year. I love the 360 and Microsoft is doing some amazing things with Live and their plans to start incorporating the PC even more - Orph, you'd have enjoyed that part of the presentation! <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif"> Plus they're making some huge strides by getting GTA4 from day 1, and not dealing with a port later. Halo 3 is going to be massive, whether you like it or not, and I've been digging a lot of the games showing for the platform - Gears of War, Too Human (a little rough yet but I think it'll get there), Mass Effect, Dead Rising... and plenty of multi-platform releases that I'll take on the 360 over the PS3 any day (Brothers in Arms, Rainbow Six: Vegas, etc.). I've got a pile of 360 games already (13, more than interested me from the xbox or ps2 within the first few years of their releases) and plenty more coming!

And yeah, Nintendo just blew everyone away with the Rev... er, Wii. So much cool stuff to show out of that, and so many awesome looking games. Rumors are the thing will release at 199 or as low as 130 - 199 seems the sweet spot given their history, though. $199 + zelda, metroid, mario, and all that other craziness = instant buy for me this fall. I imagine I'll end up holding off on the PS3 until sometime next summer.

We've got a title there (but I'm not working on it), Marvel: Ultimate Alliance for 360, PS3, Wii, and current-gen stuff + PSP. It's the successor of sorts to the X-Men Legends games and looks a hell of a lot better on the 360 and PS3 than you would believe from the screens and trailer (which includes ps2/xbox footage). When it's at the correct camera angles, it blows me away every time I see it. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif"> It's no Gears of War or anything visually, but is coming together really well. And Blur's cinematics kick ass, as usual...

I get depressed reading these threads. There is either little or no excitement about new PC games, just those damned consoles.

I agree with Orpheaus, I also find these whole media release shows/events very boring and depressing, I would only be excited if I actually own one, otherwise I dont find it interesting and thus loose all excitment over the ridiculas price tags. Wow, a new game or 2, I proberly will ever own it, nor even want it. Also, I have never understood what is with people and consoles...to me a console is just a primitive PC only capable of running games and have to be connected to a blurry TV. What is wrong with a good ol' PC? And I have found playing FPS's on consoles close to impossible. Also, there seems to be so many japansese fantasy s**t and similar stuff coming out. I hate fantasy, and I hate RPG's. I like realistic games, such as strategy games like C&C generals and Half-Life 2, BF2, BF1942 etc. I never like Warcraft 3 very much either. Also, Wii's controller to me look boxy, clunky and old fashioned. Why didnt they make it nice and curvy? And at least spend more than 2 minutes on the design.

And last but not least, how do you think I would buy one?

A: I dont have enough pocket money saved up to afford one (I would have to wait for years)

B: Last xmas I got a PC, and I doubt my dad would want to buy me a huge present for a long time.

I know with you Americans you guys are all rich and stuff so you can literally ask for one and it will be given to you on a silver platter, unfortuantly im middle-class thus you get my point. ........ Yes, the president of Sony flies in and delivers the new PS3 directly to me, while I lay on my bed of money and eat grapes from the hands of servant. How about throwing a few more insulting generalizations out there?

Anyway... there will always be people who prefer a certain format for their gaming - PC, Console, Pen and Paper; that is just fine. Variety is the spice of life, right?

What are people looking forward too?

Me:

Okami
Persona 3
Super Paper Mario (This sounds really great)
Twilight Princess
Gears of War (If it comes out on PC image)
And, of course, Crysis.
(You could probably through in the bulk of the Wii lineup too image I hope Nintendo names a price soon. A tag as low as $130 would be amazing. Buy a Wii and DS cheaper than a 360 ... buy a Wii, DS, and 360 all cheaper than a PS3)

Also, KFS, I think, unless you played the demo on the floor at E3, if you saw the ign videos or something, those seem very unrepresentational of the game in regards to gameplay, because of the way that person plays. I know that was an reviewer, for example, because he described everything he tried to do (lure guards over to the jeep and shoot the tank to make it explode, or whatever)
But if you noticed, most people don't play FPS' like that. He just stood there and got shot and shot in return. Boring. I doubt the full gameplay is like that. The ship deck did look sort of boring in that there isn't much going on, but, it may be an introduction level or something, I thought the giant robot alien monster was awesome enough. But who knows? (I could be completly wrong, of course)

I think the largest downside to Crysis is the OS it'll require: Vista image

Im not gonna get vista untill I get a new PC (In a good few years time) because bying a OS by itself cost the same amount as a good graphics card.

I watched a an off screen video of red steel and while the game does look fun the animations were nothing like the trailer shown on the official website. They used ragdoll physics which was a little disapointing. I think I might end up buying an Xbox 360. So far it has the largest and most promising line up of games out of all 3 consoles. I'm also extremely excited about the new Turok game coming out.

P.S. Does anyone remember the Phantom console that was suppose to come out? I laugh when I think about that thing. I feel sorry for anyone who put investments into the company that was develloping the thing.

I played Red STeel this morning....

The line, just to get into the Nintendo area was 2.5 hours long . Then, once inside, it was a 30-45 min wait to play any of the games. I picked Red Steel, and in hindsight wish I would have picked Metroid (I really wanted to try an fps with the Wii).

I expected the controlls to feel somewhat intuitive, but I was wrong. Character movement was controlled by the left 'Nunchuck', while aiming was controlled with the wand. This felt somewhat akward, and I certainly didn't get to any level of accuracy or adequate control within the 5 minutes I got to play. I was constantly losing my reticule and getting generally screwed up between movement and aim. I found myself wildly swinging my Wii around when trying to target guys.

The sword fighting was somewhat cool (although too short) - right stick controlled swing, left stick allowed you to block by holding up your arm (left controller has some type of gyroscope also). I wish there would have been more sword fighting, as it seemed to be the most interesting mechanic.

If I had to choose right now, between playign that game with a normal controller, or the Wii, i would have to go with the standard controller. Of course it's really hard for me to judge things based on such short demo. Who knows, the aiming mechanic could possibly be tweaked and end up feeling very good.. Personally, I would have loved to up the movement speed and tone down the aiming sensitivity.

I'll still be buying the system and trying out all the games.

A lot of reviews have said that Red Steel was very awkward and not polished (they were out yesteday too) ... I wish you would have chosen Metroid as well, since, personally, I'm pretty excited about it (and I'd like to hear more hands on news). Also, the things I've heard about how you use the grapple beam sounds awesome.

No one has to wait much longer to play many of these games.

I've heard some other sword games announced for Wii ... one that caught my interest, which every geek on the planet wanted to happen is a Star Wars LightSaber battle type game. It's official.

I think they also said they wanted to work with more freeframe movement rather than specific "moves". Which, if done right would be incredible. Not blocking properly could but you in a terrible position to retaliate and things like that. It'd be some cool stuff.

Get real guys. Those who are in charge, make the rules. ITS THAT SIMPLE.

Its not your place to question. Its not even your place to make excuses or even have an opinion about it. You just accept until you reach a point in your life where YOU can make the rules.

And you two often wonder why I go on this "Age" tangent. I get so tired of reading text about the short sighted old people. Get your own place. Pay for everything then have some punk come over and tell you whats wrong with your place. Then get back to us and tell us how you dealt with it.
