Yea, those shine surfaces just try hide the fact it's Windows 95 with a few bug-fixes and updates. (I run classic too) I think I wont come around purchasing Vista eventually.

Heavy rain
Looks like an art piece, but the model and animations are absolutely unreal.Go to Gametrailers.com and look up Heavy Rain. Outside links apparently are verboten.

Aside from the mouth issues, I have to say I was very impressed, for one reason.
I actually felt very uncomfortable towards the end of the trailer, during the part where she had the gun to her head. I actually put my hand over the screen in case she decided to blow her brains out, and I've never had that discomfort while playing/watching a videogame before. Usually, videogame violence seems like a joke, whereas movie violence makes me squeemish. This game trailer finally bridged the emotinonal gap between games and movies for me. It's a direction that I believe games have been travelling for years now, but this is the first trailer that actually ellicited a cinemaesque human-response from me.

I felt the same when the bad guy shot the hostage in the head in the intro of Soldier of Fortune. I think it has more to do with story and direction than tech detail.

I have been thoroughly unimpressed.

So to sum up: I think it looks really great and convincing at some parts (mostly when she's crying and such), but looks terrible during the rest (especially the audition scenes, ugh!).

You've hit the nail on the head. The 'uncanny valley' syndrome is very obvious with alot of the 'next gen' games and even animated films like the first Final Fantasy movie. Honestly, I think this kind of problem will eventually be dealt with in the same fashion that say, textures, are dealt with nowdays. At some point, people realized that hand drawing realistic textures was just not the optimal approach - hence, photo-reference. People got good at manipulating raw image of actual things. Games will probably end up doing the same thing, with the little nuances of emotion being captured from real actors and mapped onto 3d characters (similar to the way Kong was created). Right now, there are some procedural methods, like the way Valve did their lip-sync, but even that is far from perfect. Imagine if you could project even the tiniest facial twitch from your face, to a 3d model. This is the kind of technology we need to bridge the uncanny valley. In the end, though, it all comes down to actors or animators giving performances and breathing life into the characters - the way it always has.
Btw - I was moved by this performance and am excited to see what becomes of the project. Indigo Prophecy was a very interesting game.

...of course, knowing this is from the indigo prophecy guys makes me lose all interest - only game (save for battlefield 2) in the last 10 years or however long that I've wanted to dump in the trash, and that was only partway into the pretentious "I'm your director for your interactive movie, look at me!" tutorial. :-

Did you play any of the Matrix games?
If you want a terrible game that came out the same year: Brothers in Arms was a piece of s**t. Really beautiful game(s), god awful game mechanics. How many shots to the head does it really take to kill a Nazi? Seriously. I know it's less than 6. I would throw that game in the trash, light the trash on fire, then piss it out before I even thought of selling Indigo Prophecy.

Didn't touch any of the Matrix games, so that worked out well, too.
