No, it's not directed by Uwe Boll. Don't worry.
Here's the press release: http://www.blizzard.com/press/060509.shtml
Here's the interesting part:
? quoting Blizzard's Press Release
About Legendary Pictures
Legendary Pictures formed a partnership with Warner Bros. Pictures in
2005 to co-produce and co-finance at least 25 pictures during an
initial 5-year term, which includes a first-look distribution
arrangement. The company operates from the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank,
California. Legendary Pictures' first film was Batman Begins, directed
by Chris Nolan. Future releases include Superman Returns, directed by
Bryan Singer, M. Night Shymalan's Lady in the Water, and Roland
Emmerich's 10,000 B.C.
How do you guys think they'll handle it? Extensive make-up and costuming? CGI? A mix?
The closest thing I can think of is a version of Lord of the Rings in the Warcraft Universe.
Would you guys go see it? If you're hesitant, would you go see it if the previews looked good?

Why would I be pissed?
I'd see it depending on what they plan on doing. If the story is just retarded, then, no. I just don't understand what the substance of the story is ... and taking that it's set in a MMO universe, any player definition will not fit the mold thought up by the gamers. In that sense, the only reason to even call it "World of Warcraft" or anything like that, is to make money. It'd be a better idea just to make your own universe and borrow ideas. I'm not entirely sure how this would work ... at all. I think blind fanaticism is going to really drive the hype up and pray for there to be a delivery.
Having huge awesome battles is one thing, but they need context, that will be difficult to deliver and "still feel like the game".
No doubt, if the film makers have any sense, they'll have Weta on board almost immediately. They really are one of the best at what they do. The nice thing, also, is that they're not just CGI effects-people, like ILM.
I think Blizzard has a say in who the film makers are (perhaps) and what the plot will entail.
I hear about this a few days ago, and at this point in time, it just sounds like people are trying to cash in more on the WoW craze that's going on.
But, let's see how the film develops ... If it develops.
Also suggesting Legend pictures would enlist Uwe Boll is disrespectful.

Oh god, WoW is pretty lame IMO. A movie? Uh, I'm tempted to say sux.

If, one day, a movie maker makes a movie based on a game that is as good as, say, Goldeneye 007 is compared to the movie it would be pretty cool. Theoretically it's possible... but not very likely.

Except Goldeneye the movie came first (release and development, the development of the game started after the movie began filming) ... and Silent Hill already exists
