I got it unlocked today at about 11:am or so. Did'nt get to play it though, too much, as alot was going on. First impressions?... Breasts. Some Fine digital vixen swinging them in my face and building up a somewhat dicey back story was the intro I saw. She also makes an appearance soon thereafter in a skimpy bikini standing in a pool of some sorts. Some good secrets in the first few minutes of gameplay as well. I also blew the head completely off one of my opponents once I got hold of a shotgun. So it is quite a bit more graphic than HL2.

my ratings thus far:

Graphics: Well it's the Source engine, so nice of course.

Environments: somewhat generic. Not the best mapping I've ever seen, but adequate for the story line.

Gameplay: Definitely linear, hard to say more so early on. More violent, more sexy, and more language than HL2.

I am really happy at the moment though. This game seems fun, and is almost like playing HL2, thanks to the source feel of it.

I also set it to the most difficult level of play, but it does'nt seem too over the top difficulty wise.

bottom line: worth the price so far. Anybody else played it yet?

I haven't played it, but I've heard only good things, so I'll probably end up playing it in the next little while.

I'd say a game thats content is unfitting to younger generation <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_wink.gif"> <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_wink.gif">

But overall... if I knew what it'd be, I wouldn't've bought it

I really like it as I said in the old Recently Played thread.

One thing I was suprised but very pleased to see in it was the secrets. I love it when the developers put those in the games, it makes me want to play it again to find the ones that I have missed.

Okay here is my synopsis:

Graphics: Its the source engine, no biggie, I mean weve seen it in HL2, in fact some of the levels look remarkibly similar (Like that trash you see in the corner, is the same trash youve seen in HL2 aka: same decal).

Characters: Since its the source engine you get to really fall in love with the characters, well not in a literal sense, but you can appreciate the time taken to animate/voice act on the characters.

Difficulty: This is where the game fails in some places... Dont get me wrong I love a challenge, but there are times when you get sick of playing the same firefight for the 50th time. Their diffuculty raises really fast when you get to the guys with mini-guns, I mean I really dont know how else to defeat them witht he limited arsanal I have on me. And when the level is "linear" its hard to approach the same fire fight from a different angle.

Gameplay: The pistol has such a low rate of fire it wil piss you off. What im tryign to say here is that this isnt a typical game where you can run into a situation guns balzing and be able to kill everyone in one pass (unlike you can in HL2). This is fine when you can appraoch a combat situation from different angles (Stealth, Rambo, Sniper - SRS as I like to call it), however the level design/AI doesn't support this too well. Its very linear and you can get to these "choke" points where you have only one choice from SRS.

All in all this game has soem serious potential if they fix some of the combat issues, but as it stands, its just another linear choke point Doom 3. But if your looking for a nice game that has challenges and looks decent, and have 20$ to burn, then id recomend playing this game.

I think I'm past halfway - Now, these gatling guys are really difficult! My aim isn't very good, so I usually can't hit the weakpoint on their back. I usually have to resort to grenading them instead. It's technically my own fault, but when I get killed for the 50th time, I tend to blame the designer for this instead. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

If you read this:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=436890
It tells us that the game has a glitch. The way the game was designed was to increase the diffuculty based off of how you play (So to say it catched up to you), however there is glitch in the system to where it increases it too much.

So let me ask you this: How long did it take you to get to the gusy with gatling guns? 2 hours? well the reason these guys are so hard now is because the game is trying to catch up to you, however it caught up TOO well.

Theyre fixing this with a patch in the future, but the simple solution is to play the game slowly.

I've been trying out lots of tactics with mixed results, but after around 50 deaths, I'm at a certain part on the skyscraper where it's pretty crazy impossible. But one thing that the glitchy-difficulty does... It forces you to be pretty creative. So here are some of my experiences:

This one part, I hid behind a shelf. It was easy enough to shoot me, but because the NPCs couldn't see my head, they couldn't shoot me and started running backwards into a wall. (Or, at least, that's my reasoning) I also rely heavily on secrets and praying for health stashes. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

Fighting off 4 chaingunners with 3 health = hectic. One tactic: I use my sidekick as a decoy to draw their fire, close the doors to trap her outside, then swing around to kill the soldiers. Hand grenades are the best weapon against chaingun troops; when they start firing their chaingun, they move slowly, so time it well and bounce a grenade towards them. Save the rifle-grenades for emergencies.

Also, using doors as chokepoints - you can fire through doors with all of the weapons, though the magnum secondary fire has extra penetrating power. I think in the late game, the magnum is pretty useless because the firing rate is wayyy too slow. Oh, and exploit the green gas as much as possible - it's invaluable when you're trying to line up headshots on chaingun troops.

It says my skill is about 60, but my "instaneous challenge" is something crazy like 77. Thanks, Ritual. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

I have just made it to the end game (I think) on the rooftop. Campainjunkie is right.I never had more than like 15 health all the way up the side of the building( except for the occasional health stash). Insanely difficult to be sure.

There were times when I was surrounded by opponents with less than 5 health, gattling guys, standard soldiers, and jet pack guys all at the same time. I died alot!. Very challenging. Quick save is essential.

Grenades are an invaluable commodity in these situations. Pop out, roll a grenade, duck back wait for carnage, pop out, shoot through flames to awaiting opponents, and one of the most important lessons I learned was, move forward. Opponents will keep spawning unless you move forward, apparently theres an opponent shut off entity you have to hit. Keeps you moving.

Secrets aplenty, kinda cool there (dopefish lives!).

I could see why they might want to patch the difficulty slide, but then again, it is possible to play through the way it is. I'm kind of on the fence about that one.

Repetitive, yes, but always challenging thus far. Theres no method I know of which will make you a master of this game at the highest difficulty, because, even with quick save, opponents spawn differently, and randomly even from the same spot you started at from the last death. I noticed that after you play all the way through, you unlock the ability to play all the way through without dying, or you start over. I'd like to meet the person who could do that with the current version of this game.

I am suprised at how long the game is as well. I thought I was at the end about three times now, and it keeps going. So was it worth the 25 bucks?, You bet. I wish there was a multiplayer aspect to the game though.

Post note: Just finished the game. No spoilers, but the last 5 or 6 quicksaves, I was down to 4 health, and almost zero ammo.(effective ammo anyways). Took me 40 minutes to end it.

Fun stuff.

There apatently working on the multiplayer and it should arive before the next episode. From what I saw of the little vid that shows some people at e3 playing it , it looked quite fun.

I feel pretty much like you do Juim. Very fun, challenging, and satisfying. Not too long, not too short, not too expensive. Perfect.

It looks like a pretty interesting game. Very HL2-ish. I never got to play the original sIn game, though.

You get Sin1 when you purchase SinEp I believe. However, I wouldn't play the original Sin. It hasn't really aged that well. Pressing +use on a switch might have been considered "innovative interaction" back then, but now it just seems like the bare minimum. It's just a whole lot of gruntfest gameplay like SinEp, except it looks older and uglier. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">
