Been to Berlin for a couple of days! What a weird city. The people are nice and fun but somehow you can feel all the shattering historical events just by walking through the city. There are walls with bullet holes. In the middle of the city there is a giant, bombed church. The Berlin wall is teared down almost completely but there are a few places you can see the rest of it which is intimidating enough.

I lived in a cheap youth hostel in Mahrzahn which happens to be in the outer east, ex-DDR part. The building is a somewhat depressing graffiti-covered plattenbau. The streets are huge with 50-meter concrete pavements whose sole purpose seems to be to make the city look even greyer than it is. Even the old buildings (most of the inner city was bombed in WW2, so most buildings are surpsingly "modern") look different than in other European cities. More straight, aggressive... It's so German, it's almost cliched. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif">

Anyways, nice bars ect. A good place to go out and a fresh, international atmosphere. My plans on using this trip as an inspiration for a new map have been squashed, though. If I did you guys would tell me not to use so many right-angled walls.

you know, you really need to visit M?nchen. I think it'd be great to go to Bayern for a few weeks. It just costs too much.

I'd like to go - I imagine the architecture in East Berlin would be all grey and monotone, in keeping with communist city planning doctrine.. but so interesting to see that juxtaposed with the western side, and whatever remains of the old city too.

Like pepper, it's on my "to do list" - along with a feckload of other European cities. So far i've only done Paris, London and Cardiff which have any significance. Oh and Calais is worth a visit if you do go to France (and sail to the UK) - rough and ready but quite olde world and good, cheap food!

It seems like many people have a "list". Berlin was on mine, too. I've also been to Paris, Prague, London and Venice. Rome is missing. Then there is Barcelona, Amsterdam... a lot do. I could live at a friend's place in Amsterdam so I might go there in the coming months.

I didn't see the airshow, pepper. I'm afraid I missed quite a bit. I was on a symposium that was held in Berlin so I could only do some sight-seeing on Sunday and in the evenings.

It sounds awesome. I'd love to go to Europe. With an unlimited amount of money, I'd probably take a huge holiday, starting at Beijing or Hong Kong and work my way west to London.

I'd like to go to Berlin. I don't think I've been there but I carnt remember as I was only about 3 at the time and that was nearly 20 years ago now. I went to paris about 10 years ago and wasnt that impressed with it. I do like Amsterdam and would love to go back there.

I would also love to back to Vancover again I quite liked that city but sadly this time I'll be going back to Toronto but on the upside to that I'll see ome of my family.

I'd also love to see Hong Kong and I definatly want go around Austrailia. Oh and Nova Scotia that looks like a nice place.

Australia is nice. I managed to see Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra and bits and bobs in between, as well as most of New Zealands South Island as well as Wellington and Auckland in the north.

I also stopped in Bangkok airport for an hour or two!

My sister just got back from her year in New Zealand a couple of weeks ago, and on thursday she is off to spend a year in Australia! Don't think you could pay her enough to stay in Scotland these days <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif">

Well she's going to be surprised when she gets here. It's getting into winter and is probably about as cold as Scotland (Not that I know how cold it is, but it always looks cold on the tv, and why would tv lie <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">). So anyway, let her know to pack something warm as well as the standard summer gear. Where is she heading in Australia by the way?

There are several Eurpean cities I'd like to visit but I can't come up with a list ATM. National Geographic has had some amzing places in their publications that are mostly nature. Take a look in their magazines or watch the NG channel once in a while to get some good idea of nature spots.

P.S. In September I'm going on a 7day cruise to cozumel and a few other spots on the Mexican coast. The diving should be great, I can't wait to see some of the Mayan architcture.

I'll make sure to take some high quality photos for you guys <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

Ahhh the nostalgia. I lived in Holland for a few years as a teen (1989 to 1991), in a little town called Terneuzen. Luckily, we were able to travel alot, so I say alot of France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, England, Belgium.. I also spent a few weeks in India and Russia. I was there when the Berlin wall fell, and remember watching the beginning of Desert Storm from my school in Antwerp. Seems like another life time. I would love to go back.

My brother lives about 10-15 minutes from the Holland border in a little town called Anholt. He drives for UPS there.
