IMO, there were only two Bonds. Each named James.
What? Sean Connery was the first Bond. Dr. No, 1962.
Roger Moore didn't play Bond until 1973 in Live and Let Die.
For further clarification here's a slightly chronological list of Bonds:
Sean Connery (1962 - 1968)
George Lazenby (1969)
Sean Connery (1971, Diamonds Are Forever)
Roger Moore (1973 - 1985)
Sean Connery (1983 - Non-MGM produced Never Say Never Again)
Timothy Dalton (1987 - 1989)
Pierce Brosnan (1995 - 2002)
Daniel Craig (2006 - Current)
There are also talks with the people who own the books MGM doesn't for bringing Pierce back in some remakes, I don't remember which. It'd be similar to the same situation with Never Say Never Again and would allow the actor to play a more serious Bond as he has wanted for the last decade.

I think Brosnan is my favorite, if only because he was the current Bond when I truly got into the series. I liked all of them, though. Each actor sort of brings his own thing to the role.
I was afraid I wouldn't like Daniel Craig, but he's turned out to be quite good.

Hmm
/me scratches noggin.
I knew that Sean played Bond twice, but thought Moore took the center position.
Sorry, my bad.
And yes, I thought the guy who played in "On her majesties secret service" did a great job. But as a one hit wonder, his Bond cannot compete for the overall success of both Moore and Connery.
Still, was my bad. Thanx.
[EDIT]
f**k me. I was right, but wrong. I am asleep.
I just re-read your post and it did confirm my reply, if you discount the one hit wonder dude.
Still, I was wrong because in my mind, that guy was #3, and clearly he was not.

I really enjoyed it myself, pretty much the same as what you said. Albeit it was a little long.

The first action sequence when he's chasing the bomb maker just seemed rediculous, here they are talking about making Bond more gritty and real and they put that in. They may as well have sent the Terminator in, I think only he would be capable of creating as much pointless destruction. Not to mention running through a wall and creating an international incident that miraculously fades away. If they caught him on camera and splashed it across the media you'd think MI6 would find his usefulness as a spy somewhat reduced. I suppose I felt if they were going for a realistic Bond they should have made the realism consistent througout.
The story also seemed a bit dragged out and held together with some pretty flimsy links. That may have been a result of changing the setting, and some characters, so dramatically from the original book.
That being said I loved the old Bonds a hell of a lot, so it'll take a little while to get used to the new style. I'm going to see it again soon, so I imagine my opinion will change the second time round.
Funnily enough after watching the new movie, re-watching the old spoof Casino Royale I noticed there was actually a plot to it

/me creams jeans
I did see it that night and i thought it was great. I was so sick of laser-cars and invisble watches and butt-propellers... The realism of this one was great. Other than the remote blood analyzer... kinda iffy, but i bet they have them... Anyway, an A+ in my book.
