I have always used IE, and i love it. I have NEVER gotten spyware, adware or any viruses. I have never seen any of these security holes that all the noobs seem to be getting into.

i can say the same. i don't even have any antivirus installed, i don't need it... no. but whenever i have to visit those non-secure webpages i use "deepfreeze".

IE is enough!

Hmm, it also seems inconsistent posting patterns can drive me nuts quickly. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_eek.gif"> It was late, also. I'm actually afraid of reading what I typed earlier...

asterix_vader, you should be careful without using an antivirus program (does that mean no firewall either?). I thought I don't need them, too. Until HL refused to start one day, telling me the executable was changed and it's probably a virus. I just thought that's a lame excuse for crashing or broken updates. But then I installed a AV/Firewall kit, did a test and discovered a gazillion viruses, spyware ect that already brought my PC close to total breakdown.

Not even Firefox can help here... <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/sad.gif">

This morning when Steam failed to load, I turned off zone alarm for a moment to see if that was the cause.. (it wasn't btw) and damn in just a few seconds I was assaulted by spyware.

Needless to say, I had my zone alarm back up in a short but then I had to run my scans to get the s**t out again.

Forking Steam, causes me trouble even when it doesn't work.

Try this and see.

ok it was at 80% or so and i stopped it. it found like 88 spyware and 22 virus, most of them were dlls (many wsock32.dll), cookies, exes (i know them all). none was actually a virus.

now i'm sure there's no need to install an antivirus. thanks for the link!

Firefox + linux = fast.

Firefox + windows = bit of a resource hog, but still good to work with.

IE7 = Where are all the buttons ffs ?
I use Opera and I don't have any problem configuring anything. And I'm pretty sure IE7 ripped all of the graphics from Firefox. At least, it appears that way.

Isn't that like saying that Ford stole Chevrolet's ideas because they both have tires?

Ford was around, before Chevy, and IE was around before FF. I doubt they stole anything.. Besides, it may be simply a matter of great minds thinking alike. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/swear.gif"> <--- cool smiley.

Umm... viruses can infect other files. Chances are you got one at some point and it infected everything it got its hands on. Do something about it as soon as you can.

Yeah, but no.

Firefox has always been related to Netscape, and that browser dates back to 1994 (Released as a beta under the name Mosaic). IE only goes back as far as 1995 or possibly not even back that far.

Go here for information.

You know thats kinda sad. Netscape's been around so long and its used least.

I would use Netscape but the load times are horrible... Or were.

Still, I wonder if it is a theft thing, or just that there is a finite amount of features available and only now are all the browsers deciding to incorporate some common ones.

I am still using IE6, I don't just jump on band wagons so I am not real sure what the most recent perks are about these browsers everyone is raving over.

In the end, if Ford or Chevy gives you the ride you like, who cares what tabs it has?

You sound like Bush talking about the Iraq. Seriously, if your PC was a human being he had terminal cancer and AIDS. Do something, that's really dangerous!

text files are dangerous? the dlls were eliminated, the exe files are programs that i downloaded/installed myself. it's ok, there's nothing to worry about!

Well, I didn't know the program actually deleted them. Harmless-looking exe files can contain a virus, of course. So you might have installed a virus-free program but whenever you launch it you might also launch a few kilobytes of code that was added later.

Anyway, I just wanted to save you some trouble, man. Viruses look harmless until the day they get really nasty (which usually is a day before you need to print an important file that is then forever lost).

I'll stop now but don't say I didn't warn you <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_wink.gif">
