Rebellious attitude and "not conforming" to some mystical standard set by the small niche of society inside a high school is only normal. It isn't anything new and dates back at least 100 years. There are always new forms of it, it just seems that now, one of the most recent incarnations are also lazy ... as I understand from their claim to way of life.
Paraphrase, or else you'll be plagiarizing.

It was fun for a while but lately the Goth-bashing has become some kind of cheap sport. Basically, all they do is being weaker, thus being a great target to make fun of. What is it they did to people? Except for being weird and "breathing their air".

But even then you'd be conforming

Tell a goth kid that if he wants to do what no one else his age is doing, he should become a priest, then record his response and there's your report right there.

You also implied that all "goth kids" are male.

It's great not having to deal with that crap anymore.

About Goths: Personally, I have never understood the "Be different but treated same" mentality.
If you want to dress like a freak, f**k Go For It I say, but never, ever get upset because your accused of being one. Thats about as lame as it can get. ![]()

I think I?ve never met anyone who calls himself a "Goth" but I doubt they have a problem with being accused to be a freak. They like it.

Perhaps, but I passed a woman, obviously wealthy, who was wearing a pair of leopard spotted pants one day. I laughed so hard I had tears in my eyes. She was upset for some reason that I never did fathom. ![]()
I know a girl who wears goth clothes. She gets upset every time I ask her "Why do you dress down like that?"
Yeah, she gets upset.

My point was, they care. They may claim indifference, but its bull. There seems to be some sort of badge of honor they wear with all that black clothe and silver chains.
Anyway.. What were we saying? " SRC="images/smiles/heee.gif">

other than the obvious fact that the "nonconformists" are conforming with each other, most claim that they don't care what society thinks of them or how they act/dress, if they really didn't care, why do they go through all of this trouble trying to prove it, if they really didn't care they would just be themselves

They can?t be "non-conform" (a bulls**t term anyways, I agree) every second of their life. There?s no non-conform way of buying bread. Or living in this society without being delivered into a mental institution.
They?re clearly intentional outsiders compared to the highschool-kid soap-opera stereotype, I think that?s what they mean when talking about "non-conformism". They are. And, as long as they don?t hurt anyone, it?s their problem and right.
I think it?s more ridiculous to invest so much time reverse-proofing their self-descriptions like the String Theory than dressing black and saying there?s no place for passionate outsiders in this world. Which there isn?t as this thread proves very well.
All this Goth-bashing actually made me interested so I read a few things about them for a while and ultimately I think they?re more about tolerance (than non-conformity as an end in itself). Like Buddhist take a statue of Jesus Christ when you hand it to them and put it next to their Buddha figures instead of calling you wrong and letting you burn in imaginary hell.
