Thanks to everyone for entering, just a shame those people who started weren't able to finish in time. Just to point out and thank also these people who have contributed their thoughts on the maps, thanks to Orpheus for sorting out the hosting and distribution. All that has been said above covers my thoughts pretty well but regardless of this, we got some great entries and here's my feelings -

1st) Stadric

While the first door was quite simple (but still nicely made), the 2nd blew me away in visual appeal. The idea of the door working in segments and operating completely differently to the standard "hinged" setup or sci-fi doors is very innovative and looks a treat. It's a shame that texturing seems incomplete in places.

2rd) Baron Von Snickers

Echoing Orpheus's comments, this map only really suffers from the grey feel to it. The level of work and crafting that has gone into the shape of the doors just managed to lift this into 2nd for me - particularly the angles at which the door locks/unlocks itself, it was really something I had in mind when I proposed this competition and anticipating peoples entries. Nicely done, very sci - fi. Perhaps a career in Star Trek set design is your calling!

3nd) Riven

The detailing and texturing work here are it's shining star - although it deviates from the set plan a little, we are flexible! (We have to be with only 3 entries, hehe). I'll second reapers comments on intergrating the door into a larger theme, and as I mentioned this is backed up by full texturing, lighting, ambient sound and use of entities to add to the map. Drops behind Snickers for it's slight deviations from the brief, but redeemed by the level of work demonstrated!

Now that I see the entries I'm glad that I didn't finish my medieval portcullis door thingygummi. :P It's nowhere near the originality of some of these entries and it would've been for HL1(I hate the new Hammer so much). :P I guess I'll partake the next one, if one other competition and school doesn't interfere.

Hehe, I was planning on making a couple of wooden planks, attached to eachother by a string, fall into place... like some kind of garage door hehe, just let physics do most of the work for me hehe.

But anyways, hope the next comp starts soonish, but we'll see how busy gwil is.

Now that we're on that topic, gwil, you could maybe see if some regulars would want to judge maps / convein on irc or communicate via e-mail to see who the winner is, that would save you alot of time perhaps, since you're probarbly quite busy with the site in general, aswell as other things you enjoy doing in life.

I guess he kinda drew a similar conclusion to that of ours, so maybe there wasn't any voting neccesary this time?
I think it would be nice if there was a nice jury selected of moderators and regulars that have a small vote over irc/msn/maybe their own little pirvate board.
