I'd be curious to see one make it to fruition. After SPC, I am in serious doubt that its possible.

Meh, I'm not as experienced as you guys but from my patchy experience of mapping surely it's just a case of the team "not biting off more than they can chew" sort of thing isn't it?

I'll see what you can do, if I'm impressed I'll help out with this collaboration.

Seems like it could be a fun project, but it's not going to succeed, at least not how you envision it, unless you have a clear, concrete plan and communicate that plan to all the participants. Having something like a design doc would make the whole thing go much smoother, and you would have something you could point to and say "this is the goal of this project". A community-oriented project like this would also benefit a lot from a place where people can see the latest progress and discuss the project.

I talked to him on xfire, and he's a beginner (I should've known, only a beginner would trust in a collab. map), but I can probably make him into a respectable mapper, and this into a respectable map.

wasn't there a project like this, but instead it was divided into a layout and everyone got a piece, puzzle map or something

maybe certain people could be responsible for certain aspects of maps.
Find people who are good at certain things, like any good group.
- a level layout planner.
- several people to focus on architecture.
- someone who can make models and texture them appropriately for static
and physics props. or one modeler and one guy who textures the models.
- someone who is good at terrain mapping.
there are many ways to do something like that, planning ahead is the key.
deciding on a theme would be the first step.
then getting some reference pics or drawings to try and re-create in 3D.
just my two cents.

Sounds more like a mod team to me. I think for what's being suggested, custom content should be left out.

I'm going to make sure that the planning stage is complete before even making a new .vmf, there will be no immaturity here!
If/when we come up with something, we'll show it here and branch out, but if anyone else wants in on the planning stage...
