Dystopia, the mod which I have been working on for well over a year now, has finally been completed and we are releasing v1 of our mod next weekend.

For a list of the game's features, click here. A changelog of what has changed from the u4 Demo version of the game is here. Quite a large changelog!

If you've tried previous versions of the game, and enjoyed it, make sure you grab the new version when it is made available. Even if you didn't enjoy it too much, the team still urges you to give it a go and treat it as an entirely new game, because it really is a lot different.

Finally, I'd like to wrap it up with a screenshot of my map featured in the game: Detonate.

(sorry about the file size orphy)

Make sure you check out the game next weekend, and I hope to see some of you ingame.

Screenshot looks really sweet! Unfortunately, the site won't load. I get the following error:

Site may have gone down temporarily, I'm not sure.

Regardless, it's working fine now (for me, anyway).

Trailer looked pretty cool. Reminded me a bit of the Max Payne intro with the the pulsing sound and screen, but that's just a plus. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_wink.gif">

I haven't been keeping up with this, and all the links posted on this page only lead to a 500+ meg download.

What is this exactly?

I apologise, Orph, I should have been more clear. I made the assumption that most people in a community such as this would have known what Dystopia is, considering we've been one of the higher-profile Source mods out there (we've recieved quite a lot of attention from VALVe, etc.)

The site only consists of 9 files for the time being because our server is getting hammered by huge numbers of people trying to download our game.

Dystopia is a modification for Half-Life 2 (though you only need the SDK base to play it). It's cyberpunk themed mod set to a future battle between Punk Mercenaries (Punks) and Corporate Security Forces (Corps). With assault gameplay (additional gametypes will come in the future), the attacking team must complete objectives in meatspace (the real world) and cyberspace (a 3d representation of the network.

Planet Half Life gave Dystopia v1 quite a rave review, which can be viewed here. It mentions a bit about the background of the mod, the features, the gameplay and the improvements over previous versions. Check it out if you're interested.

Only 2 hours into release, we've already managed to reach a higher player count than The Specialists and Sven Co-op, as well as popular source mods such as SourceForts and PVKII. Steam's stats currently show us at 398 players, and the number is continually increasing with each update of the page.

What more can I say? Give it a go, you won't regret it. Hope to see some of you blokes in-game (I play by the name '[dys]Trapt' and you'll recognise me by my developer icon on the scoreboard).

Enjoy! image

You ain't gotta apologize for my ineptitudes bud. I just am either gone to much and lose track, or.. Am just dumb.

I'll download.. Prolly wait till the stampede dies a bit though.

(with my job, I am apt to be gone 2 days to a week.. I just lose track sometimes.)

<img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif"> Waiting for the stampede to die is probably a good idea. Our webserver is still getting smashed by huge amounts of people (we're on the front page of digg atm, and we're expecting a lot more people to download when it gets posted on popular news sites). At the moment, you'll probably have trouble getting into servers, most of them are full.

We just passed Natural Selection and Earth's Special Forces on the Steam Player count stats. All the other games above us are all VALVe (except Garry's Mod), and the development team are amazed at how much attention we're getting, and how much people seem to love our game.

If people ask me why I map, I'll have to explain to them the feeling of seeing full servers on Steam, playing my map and enjoying it. It really is an unbelievable feeling.

You'll be pleased to know there are a number of Australian servers too! Kinda helps that the vast majority of the developers are, in fact, Australians. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

I tried to avoid the initial rush, what with the clogged servers and all, but after your point about once it hits popular news sites, I figure I should get too it before it gets even worse.

You're almost beating TFC right now. I hope the mod can hold it's place over the next few weeks. (OT: what's this "Earth's Special Forces"? They always have hundreds of players and I never even heard of them? )

Anyway, I have this whole afternoon to map, try out that copy of Far Cry I borrowed, and a bunch of new Family Guy episodes to watch. *adds Dystopia to the list* <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_wink.gif">

The launch has gone incredibly smoothly: we've had heaps of players and the vast majority of them seem to enjoy the game!

I, too, was surprised at the popularity of ESF (it seems to be a HL1 mod based on DragonBallZ). I knew that it existed and stuff, but I had no idea they had such a huge player base. They're rivalling the popularity of TFC at all times, it's quite phenomenal!

Hope you fellas enjoy the game when you get around to playing it. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

Oh, and reaper? Don't have high hopes for Far Cry. It's pretty poop. image

I had a quick game of Dystopia and it looks excellent. I always liked this mod. Great job, guys!
