Heya!

We all knew those great modifications for HL1 popping out like grass. (NS, Firearms, TFC, DOD, CS, and and and and and and). So far I could not find a Multiplayer-Mod for HL2 (beside the commercialized ones like DOD:S or CS:S and of course Eternal-Silence which got a great potential) that really made my toe shoot up in my shoes.

So what about you guys?

Thanks in advance!

hl2: deathmatch pro is good, it's basiacally hl1 modded into hl2 so all the good guns and levels from the first

Eternal Silence has a Beta version that looks really nice

Goldeneye Source is looking good for multiplayer.

Blackmesa source is looking to be a great singleplayer mod.

Empires has been out there since last spring. One player from each team is a commander whose responsibility is to put down buildings and manage resources as well as command his team to victory. Someone might scream Natural-Selection! at this point, but it's very different from that. Actually the only thing in common with these two in terms of gameplay is that they're both RTS/FPS hybrids.

''Everyone wades in s**t until they're competent enough to walk on it. Jesus style.''
Dystopia - Empires

Had a look at "Empires" - I will download it tomorrow.
I got HL2DM Pro today and it's one hell of improvement.

Thanks for your answers so far!

HL2DM Pro... do they still have the "pro-ugliness"? I never liked the clownish colors and everything. Maybe the 80ies-style arcade player models are more balanced than HL2DM, but all the Pro aspects sucked out the atmosphere from this mod for me :/ I played it for a while because they're good at fixing the bugs Valve doesn't bother to fix in original HL2DM.

I didn't get to play many mods recently but here are a few that caught my attention:

The Hidden - Source - One player is a near-invisible Predator-like hunter, the others have to kill him. One of HL2's best mods.

Minerva - a great, dense SP mission for HL2. Very atmospheric, some of the best Source mapping I've seen so far.

HL" - Capture th Flag - Delivers the CTF action for HL2. Also includes the bestest power-up system ever.

Dystopia - A nice cyberpunk teamplay mod. The final version is just about to be released, I played the beta a lot, great fun.

Insects Infestation - Didn't get to play the beta yet, but this one always looked very promising to me. Surely worth checking out!

Plan of Attack - The first total conversion mod for HL2. Old-school military gameplay with a few smart twists. It was popular for a while, but then people stopped playing it. Maybe the "Reborn" project will bring back some life to this.

...

Among those that have been mentioned: Make sure you check out "Source Forts", it's one of the most original ones! "Goldeneye Source" is awesome for those that liked the N64 version, the best console-to-fps conversion I've ever seen. "ES", of course.

There are also so many great-looking unreleased Mods. "Neotokio" - superstylish. "Fortress Forever", "Black Mesa" for the HL1 remakes, you should have heared of them. SI2 (hopefully) ... All the ones I forgot, the great ones. There's quite a choice. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

I would quickly like to back up the current statement that Source Forts is one everyone should deffintely play. One of the few mods that makes use of the source engine in a non-annoying-yet-really-fun-way, with that good ol' TFC feel to it.

Only issue with source forts is that it is currently lacking in any notable maps :/ Most of them are simplistic arena type things.

I've tried to play "The Hidden" like 8 times and it crashes every time I try to load a level. It really pisses me off because the game looks badass.

Goldeneye Source is really nice. There are a lot of "kinks" they need to work out (like the amazing accuracy of a shotgun and the complete uselessness of a sniper rifle) The "dead cam" is a really cool feature (especially if you're falling when you die).

PVK2 is alright. It's freaking beautiful most of the time, but it just isn't fun without a bunch of people.

Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Nightfall, BM Source and They Hunger Source. Neither of them has been released yet, but the longer it takes the better the mod will be. /2 kopecks
For MP, Nuclear Dawn looks like a very promising mod with an decent storyline and some cool-looking content.

The Hidden: Source: Fun for the first three days, after that I got pretty bored. The gameplay is always the same: run around poking in dark corners (D3 anyone), and suddenly get smacked down. Wait 5 minutes. Repeat.

Dystopia: Imho, still one of the best source mods released. Looks promising, most certainly the new version, which comes with a load of new maps, weapons and implants.

PVKII: Very good fun, and a very polished release.

Eternal Silence: Good beta, but flying those ships is *hard.

Sourceforts: A very decent mod, but it has one big flaw: people. There has to be a server admin who monitors that every team still grants acces to their flag position. You could just block it off completely, and whilst it keeps you from scoring yourself, it ruins the game.

Empires: Played it once, found it a bit too laggy.

Other good ones mentioned: Minerva, Rock24, Goldeneye:Source.

Upcoming: Fortress Forever, Nuclear Dawn, No more room in hell, Black Mesa Source, Insurgency, Off-Limits, ...
