Okay so my computer took a dive on me last week. And I've managed to put in a fresh install of windows and what not. Ive got it ready for IGF (It'll be there to showcase ES), but I have an internet issue. I'm only downloading at half the original speed that I normally do. Before the crash I could have downloaded at ~150k/s, now I'm lucky to be able to get ~60k/s. What the hell is going on? Could I have installed my motherboard's drivers incorrectly for the Ethernet? I have SBC yahoo DSL, and I'm hooked up behind a Linksys router (please no comments as to how much linksys sucks). Any suggestions on what to check?

I like linksys.

Are you certain of your downloads? I assume you broadband speedtested it?

I had trouble recently too. was my phoneline. someone had removed one of the filters in another room. Check that.

It could be drivers, I had incorrect ones once for a completely different IPX card. (ethernet I think their called now) The wrong drivers worked, but not very well. Make sure you are using the drivers for your card.

If I recall, linksys also has an internal bandwidth monitor. Maybe its set low. I also heard windows XP has a broadband wide setting. Perhaps its low.

I realize these are all shots in the dark, but if I toss enough out, maybe one will be correct.

Try running Unblocka, I had the same issue as you (except I was getting around 100 instead of 160) and that fixed it.

Sorry none of either of your suggestions have worked so far. This is especially annoying because I've gotten used to playing with a ping of ~20. Now its around 60 on my servers <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/sad.gif">.

My tip is always to keep it simple and look for the obvious things you forgot. Re-check your modem/router/ect drivers. Any settings of this sort.

I doubt that Windows XP has any option to speed down your internets below maximum (or near maximum) that would activate automatically after a fresh install. I'd check the drivers and hardware settings for the part that connects, even re-check it if you've done already.

I know this may be to simple but, you haven't got auto update turned on, do you?

Perhaps your bandwidth is being used there. Also, I have heard that using a borrowed copy of windows will bork out now. You might be having problems there is this is true.
