I started playing C&C3 earlier today, and so far it's good. I'm doing the GDI campaign and so far I've finished the 8 first levels, on Normal btw. My first impression is that this is a solid, good game. The graphics and effects are nice, and I feel like the actual game (v1.2, latest patch as of now) runs smoother than the demo did. I now have the settings to medium and getting somewhere around 20-30 fps most of the time which is very acceptable for me in a RTS game (my machine: 6800gt, AMD 64 3200+, 2gb RAM, os: XP Pro).

I gotta say I love the cut scenes. There is something about the acting and the funny suits that just make me want to laugh, but it's great that they've keep those vids in the games from the start. Kane is so evil btw, always appearing in red light <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_lol.gif">.

It's gonna be really interesting to see what role the new team, Scrin, play in the whole story.

Just beat the GDI campaign. Good game I must say, it has the right "just one more mission" feeling. Next I'll do the NOD campaign and enjoy how Sawyer from Lost doubles the value of the game with his presence <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_lol.gif">.

Hehe, I must admit I played quite intensively. I'm having a "nerd period" right now, when I feel I must spend every hour infront of my computer and play games/watch anime/do nerd stuff.

Finished the NOD campaign a couple of hours ago. It was nice, and a bit harder than the GDI campaign. I had some serious trouble beating the level called Operation Stiletto. I even drew a map on paper trying to figure out how to do it. Anyone else beaten it?

SPOILER (in black):
After beating the NOD campaign, I got access to the Scrin campaign, yay! I've played the first two levels, and it doesn't seem to be as fun as the other two. The cut sequences aren't as good/fun, instead there's some strange alien entity speaking with a strange voice. Oh well, better than nothing <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif">.

I had this game and Stalker in my hands and opted for Stalker.

I was never a C&C fan and thought the good reports I had about Stalker more enticing.

C&C always seemed like a cheap clone of Dark Reign anyway.

Hard for it to be a clone when the original C&C pre-dates Dark Reign by 2 years.

I've played both series and while I enjoyed the Dark Reign music the game was pretty darn buggy every time I tried to play. C&C and Red Alert were great games, I never really played the in-betweens...but III has been stellar, I haven't been actually excited to play a game in a long time.

Can't argue with dates I suppose but, I played C&C1 and DR1 and DR beat it's pants off.

I never had any computer issues. Mayhap I was lucky. Since we'll never know if it was drivers or some other clashing issues that caused your woes.

Of the two though, I'll vote DR every time.

The first C&C is actually '95.

Regardless, the bugs were not computer issues, but gameplay ones. Like...send a squad of air units (forgive my forgetting the names, this was in probably '99 when I played) and instead of reaching the other base they all decided to find this antenna in the middle of the field and manage to hit it while backing up a congo-line of about 10-15 ships. Just ran into too many weird things like that.

Spoiler warning:

I just beat the Scrin campaign. It was significantly shorter, took about a third of the time it took to complete the GDI or NOD campaign. All in all it took me 22 hours and 35 minutes to beat all three, on normal. I'm not sure if the times I failed missions is counted as well.

Judging from the demo, this game is really nothing special. C&C: Tiberian Sun is much better and the whole game is only a fraction of the disk space that the C&C: 3 demo takes.

Is the disk space being wasted on HD cutscenes? Because C&C: Generals game uses around 200 Megabytes more than the C&C: 3 Demo (roughly same engine too). If that's the case, then it's a retarded idea. How many people have a High-Def monitor anyway?

What about unit control? You can only select groups of infantry units at a time. What if you one of your fireteams is down to 2 men out of 6? It's not like you can replace team members. In Generals, you can order any amount of any type of unit - especially handy when it comes to occupying structures and vehicles.

If you get excited about this game then I'm afraid to say you have no taste. It's trying to be next-gen compared to Tiberian Sun and a step up from Generals - it's neither.
