I have no problem with opening and closing cinematics. They are awesome, and can do alot for the game
Now, cinematics elsewhere... it really depends on how its done. Nothing pisses me off more in a game, than being in the middle of a fight, and then there is a level change/cinematic/etc
On the other hand, if done well so as to be SEAMLESS with the game, they can be pretty nice
Anyways, I voted 3, because your poll is black and white when my answer is a shade of grey

I'll tell you a little secret...Halo and Halo 2 really aren't that good...and the cinematics are no different to those found in ten dozen other first-person shooters. " SRC="images/smiles/icon_wink.gif">

Seriously man, its not like Halo is dead, It has a massive, massive following, very active halo2 xbox live players, and I cant wait to see how bungie Will "finish the fight" to this brilliant trilogy. The Halo serious has won many awards and even has a few records.
And my horizens are pretty large. They have to be to like Zelda, sort of. I go now.
P.s can you folk see this

But that doesn't make the games better or worse. It's all about how well either is done.

As much as i like halo myself, the single player was lacking.
I don't own a x box. Nor will i never ever own vista so i will never play halo 2 but i have herd they took all the skill out of the game.
Plus halo pc is not what it used to be. It's glory days are past and now i mostly find severs full of 10 year olds. You can tell because all they do is charg head on and shot. They have no concept of tactics. It's hard for me to find a challenge now days (rarely that i do play anymore though). It's not fun coming first every time.

Kinda confused as to the point of this thread now...
Is it a poll and discussion about cutscenes and how they are utilised?
Is its purpose to pimp a mod that may or may not exist (I know which I believe)?
Or is it a Halo pimping thread, with pictures and everything!
And your comment there kinda talks yourself round in one big circle. You say that we're all right, but then in the very next sentence (I think, grammar not great there
) say that developers are bad for not wanting to use cutscenes.
Lets have a proper focussed discussion about the original question shall we and not derail your own thread further beyond recognition? Provide examples of these so called 'bad developers', give us something so we can discuss properly!

I think you're sort of hoping too hard, here.

Ok first off:
*This thread is about what I wrote about in my first post.
*It is not here to advertise my mod, which is still in development and does exist.
*It is not a halo pimping thread. I used it as an example.
* This is my statement : "Developers who think cut scenes are bad are wrong" They may not use them often but if they think they are horable than they are wrong.
================
And I didn't really want to give an example of a developer doing this, because I dont want to put any developers down because there all good. But one developer who is a aginst cutscenes because they think they are bad is "Starbreeze Studios". They developed Riddick. I really didn't want to give out that example because they are'nt to bad, however they are against cutscenes because they dont think that it "works" in fps. That is untrue.

It always depends on the game, some action games if you're going to be super, super intense it's best to have everything happen all around you even perhaps moreso than how HL did it (less pauses, more movement, etc.) Other games I don't mind being told a story with lesser interaction.

Go here and download this http://halocinema.bungie.org/halo2/31_finale.wmv .
Now watch this movie. Now Imagine trying to do this in first person. You will find the starbreeze is wrong.

Have you any reference/source saying that Starbreeze don't think cut-scenes work in an FPS, or that they are "bad"? Just because they choose not to do things that way doesn't mean they think they are "bad".

Ok, Hay people I'm back for a few days.
. Ok lets see what we got. Ahh reaper47. I know halo is good, it dosent need to be said mate (
), but that was an example of what can not be done in 'first person action/cutscenes'. Now Reno man! Yeah Yeah I know riddick worked without cutscenes but riddick was an example of a game that starbreeze studios created. And they said that statement in the Official Australian Xbox 360 Magazine. Not sure what issue but they had an interview with some of the guys. Ted comes to name. His some level desginer. Thats all I can Think of.
If you have any examples of what can/can't be done in cinimatics/first person then post them in this very topic and we can have a little chat.

The difference, as I see it, is that cutscenes make it much easier to tell a story in the conventional sense, whereas completely first-person games lend themselves to a more immersive 'be the protagonist' kind of experience. There's always the possibility for exceptions, but that's the gist of it as best I can tell. One approach is not inherently better than the other, they're just different ways to do it, each with their strengths and weaknesses.
